AnonymousSome pics that were on the camera from Sunday
And this is how the weather should of been
November 10, 2009 at 8:26 pm #160359I particularly like those down hill with the lights on pics Dan.

AnonymousI said to Dan when he was taking those pics that they would look good with the lights on. Like ants down a hill
November 10, 2009 at 11:33 pm #160401You can see why it’s a good idea to have the lights on all the time when riding in the bush, even if it’s sunny.
November 11, 2009 at 12:02 am #160425Finally got some words down :cheer:
I got down to golf course nice and early and took my time getting ready while getting introductions out of the way and chatting with the guys as they showed up. I remember grumbling to myself about forgetting to put my socks out to dry after the previous day’s wet ending but as it turns out that would have been useless since I managed to submarine myself and the bike in a bog hole not 10minutes into the ride! I needed to learn to take it easy at the set out and although I wasn’t going at it hard when I got dunked this was a good lesson! Oh and thanks for tootin your horns guys I really needed the encouragement to get back out of that puddle!
Moving on through the day there was ample wetness around and I also had to remove the goggles occasionally. Occasionally I’d come to a clearing when I was wearing my goggles and it was difficult to tell if it was fog or a lake of water and my bloody bike acted like a hippo going for the puddles which meant I copped as much of a drenching from the puddles as the rain!
I’m a bit hazy on the sequence of the day but I’ll just list some of my memorable moments in dot point form –
I think it was Big Hol (WR450) slotting into a big muddy rut in front of the cornerman and letting him have it! It was a good laugh and nothing too sinister though
I was amazed by Murph’s ability to continually pop up to be there for me and others, it was incredible! Good onya mate I suppose you’re used to babysitting from your murphsberg runs but its appreciated and good to know you’re keen to get straight in and help your fellow riders! I had a bit of an off on a ledge step up and murph belted past along the chicken track (AKA the smooth line) and although I picked myself up pretty quick I think murph almost beat me back to my bike to check if I needed a hand!!! Then at the end of my day it was poor murph who came across me and my distressed bike and lent a hand trying to diagnose it.
Dan’s very professional ride organising style was great – not only did he have a solid plan in his head, he pulled out the contingency plan to compensate for the bad weather and it was all pretty seamless as he pulled everyone together keeping a great group all day. I loved the ride and had confidence in the leader and sweeps all day even though it was an area I’d never ridden and the conditions were far from pristine so big special thanks to Dan, the sweeps and the whole crew for being well behaved for the most part. What didn’t the ride have??We did uphills, down hills, rock, clay, tight with trees and roots, open with slippery corners and on top of that had a few dodgy holes that went all the way to china and even some imbecile p plated 4wder to deal with!
It was great to see all of the guys and girl giving everything an honest go too! It’s a shame I missed some of the hill action due to the memory card but I’ll work on that for next time. Kylie I think if you rode into that lake when you couldn’t see you might’ve disappeared! Good on you for braving it when you obviously couldn’t see much at all and I hope your back wasn’t too sore after.
For me the weather and conditions were a highlight! That might sound crazy but I’m still young (and dumb) enough to enjoy the challenge and welcome the experience. I’ve ridden in rain previously but not like that – you can actually hear what sounds like popcorn in some of the videos, that’s the rain on my visor which the camera is attached to! Really though I didn’t really feel the cold till I stopped for lunch but it was enough that I had a sausage sanga just to get some warmth :p
That brings me to the awesome effort by Novice and TB taking their Sunday relax time to provide us with entertainment and food! Thanks for the big effort guys much appreciated! Oh and I was stoked to be able to help out and use my new siphon and then the bloody thing wouldn’t budge a drop! I’ll have to sort that out
Another thanks to TB, DanD and Mal from sutto’s for the providing, delivering and fitting my goodies! I’ll do a write up on the awesome performance of the Pirelli scorpion back tyre when I get a moment – even this has been hard to find time for unfortunately.
Big thanks to those that helped get my dead bike out and apologies to all for the inconvenience. I know it can happen but regardless, cheers guys. Special mention to Dan for the dink, TB for the trailer ride and Wikd for the tow rope! That deserves the old bull trophy for getting my bike out of the bush not my bloody useless siphon!
I also figured it was worth gently mentioning that we should be mindful of others’ safety when riding together and this goes especially when you don’t know their riding style or capabilities because that just makes things even more unpredictable. I heard of a couple of minor incidents of poor etiquette through the day and the last thing the old bulls would want is a preventable collision caused by being wreckless with others’ safety.
Between Saturday and Sunday I rode about 160kms and with the exception of my bike losing spark it was the probably best riding I’ve done believe it or not! I guess getting a few rides in consecutively has helped my ability and confidence build and it made for a lot of fun riding with guys and girls that I could watch and pick bits up to learn even more.
I hope you all enjoy the videos as much as I did and if anyone wants to edit them let me know and I’ll get you the source data
Cheers
Trent
November 11, 2009 at 1:58 am #160432Great report AB, it was good to meet you the day before. I am glad to hear the Pirelli Scorpion preformed so well in those conditions they are a great tyre
Hope you get your ride sorted soon enough

November 11, 2009 at 4:04 am #160452Hey AB, I’m 45 and still love playing in the mud. Kind of childish really :side:
Still prefer to ride in those cnditions than dust and marbles :woohoo:
Cheers
MurphNovember 11, 2009 at 4:17 am #160466Yeah but the mud flies a lot further now though Murph.
Seriously, that orange beast of yours was a real mud flinger to ride behind, I got showered by it and you were only trying to get some grip, I could tell by your revs you weren’t trying to roost, it just happened
November 11, 2009 at 4:28 am #160467Sorry about that WB
Its not in my nature to be nasty, so any mud slinging was purely accidental
Cheers
MurphP.S. It was a fun ride though :woohoo:
November 11, 2009 at 8:40 pm #160468I got roosted by rocks and dirt on saturday and then mud on sunday and I can easily say I’d rather the mud!

AnonymousTop report and video from Sunday AB. I am glad that you enjoyed the ride even though you had some bike troubles. Next time that I run this ride hopefully the weather will be a little bit better. But I suppose a bit  of rain is better than a heap of dust.
You are welcome anytime on a ride mate.

I got down in the garage to fix the bike this morning and once I found the problem I thought I’d take a look at my siphon and check what was wrong so I could take it back while I was out getting the bike sorted.
Turns out that it was operator error :silly: You have to put your thumb over the free end to create a vacuum and get the fuel sucked in then it pumps without a worry.
BTW the spark problem appears to have been a worn out wire of the stator. I’ve started another thread but fyi I’ve managed to get a weak spark but twisting the broken wire so I’ll have it repaired properly and fingers crossed its sorted.

AnonymousGet it fixed and get rid of it AB – That bike is cursed.

December 15, 2009 at 6:31 am #159953Geez,
What a difference a few weeks without rain makes to the trails out there,,
I went for a bit of a blat this arvo after work and took in some of the trails we did around the westy to Killy area & back!!!Hardpacked & dry as a bone now, I think it was better when they were wet & greasy
Those big erosion mounds along the back trail are a heap of fun in the dry though  :laugh:I also did a few little backtrack single trails between here, Cameron Park etc on the way to Westy, bit of a clear the head run is good once a week I reckon, I might just do that from now on
