I am developing a new system for on-bike communication and navigation. I will be offering this system to OBT members first, at a discounted price. Please support a local Aussie-made product. Our system is foolproof and does not have any problems with losing satellites. We can fit this system to any bike and helmet combination and it is extremely portable.

Here are some pictures of our test versions:

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

We are also developing another version which involves TB stored in your backpack, a stick for him to poke you with and two tin cans and a string.

I was thinking of one of those ‘holo-emitters’ used in Star Wars so you can appear live in holograophic form anywhere. I could just dial up TB and say ‘Have a look around, where the f**k an I?’ :P

If that doesn’t work I have one of yours though ECKS ;)

    Champo,

What was the GPS I saw in a pic on the TTR you rode on a trip once? Can you advise of details, cost, oaded maps, model etc? It had a nice large screen to make for easy viewing when trailriding or doing freestyle MX backflips.

    regards,

yep i should get back to this thread. i was going to wait until we get our communiction stuff.

well your right we got the bike gps. we bought a garmin zumo 550 (bout $850 at the time) we are very very happy with it. it is a motor bike specific gps). you can get cheaper gps’ but we wanted a really good one that does what we want. it has allowed us to go places with little fear.
we took it on an 11 day trip up the back roads to byron bay. we could not really do this without it.

it also allows us to explore more local places ass well

we are considering getting scala rider bluetooth communications for our helmets. we had read conflicting reports that the speakers are too quiet. but we have read that there is an improved model comming out with better speckers. we may have to get uhf radios to further the range.

Ass well, is that a place you visited on your recent trip?

Maybe you should re-visit ass well, I hear they sell those new speckers you are after.

Sorry, I only quoted you because the above was still in your post after you had edited it!

Today…. We ordered a cardo scala rider q2 multiset from sound rider in queensland
It will give us bluetooth range of up to 500m (I imagine a lot less in the trees)
Therefore we are going to try to mate it to a camos bluetooth adaptor and UHF radios from dmme at Swansea.

We will let you know how we go (Sound rider said that I can return the scala riders if the experiment does not work)

note: i noticed that the new shipment of scala riders q2 multisets seems to have gone up $150au from the wholesaler. so i guess the retail price will soon follow. it already has at some resellers.

tb asked me today why we bought the dearer gps, not a cheaper hand held. so i thought we should share the answer.
    reasons being…

we didn’t own a car gps and it comes with mounts for both
when run the motard front wheel the speedo is 15% out. the gps does not care.
the large display allows us to see how tight the next corners are and whether to watch out for blind intersections
we now have a fuel gauge. even if we mount it in the car, the fuel gauge knows that and remembers to only to subtract kms from the fuel gauge on the bike. and this fuel gauge dosn’t care what wheel we run.
the gps tells us where we can get fuel (this has come in handy)
the gps also bluetooths music to our head sets. (and gps instructions and we can tell it to call people or answer calls (not that we want to make phone calls)
it is motorcycle specific, so we can operate whilst riding.
we can record loops and paste them here or bluetooth them to other bike riders.
we can plan bike rides on the computer at home and stick them into the gps for us to follow
    it is water proof
    it can handle vibrations
you can use it with gloves on. actually the touch screen works better with your gloves on.
is security mounted so that the owner can quick release it off it’s mount or lock it in.
