. So is it easy to follow a saved trip whilst riding? How do you use it in reality on the track?

    There are a cfew of ways you can set up your trip;

The first is to just put in your destination and let the GPS pick the route the same way the car ones do, you have the option to avoid certain types of roads though such as highways or toll roads.

The second is you can pick intersections and use them as way points along the course you want to travel, you can even do this on your computer with the software that comes with the maps then download the route onto the GPS.

Either of the first 2 will give you alarms and warnings along the way as you approach turns and intersections and you can have it set up so that it tells you how far to the next turn or intersection so that as you go past one waypoint you have an idea how far to the next one without looking at the screen every 20 seconds.

The third is to just draw your course using the mouse curser on you computer and download it onto the GPS, this way is not as accurate as the first 2 depending on how well you control your mouse. On one trip I did the GPS had me turning up someones driveway at a point pretty much exactly betwen to streets due to inaccuracy of the mouse pointer. It is still very effective though but you need to keep your eye on the screen more often. That’s the system we used for the Cameron Corner run with no problems.

You can also just have it set to record where you go, so you can turn it on and go exploring without having to worry about getting lost. It will record your movements and at any time you can ask it to back track (it will ask you to mark a point to start back tracking using the curser on the GPS) and you just follow the line on the screen.

    G’Day guys,

I got the Zumo 660. Awesome. Its big…. You can actually see the screen and see where you are going without having to zoom in and loosing the view of the other linked up roads.
You can give GPSOZ a call. they are really helpful & even know what they are talking about.

The new Oz Topo 3.0 maping is out. I havent got the upgrade yet but will let you know how it is.

I have a Garmin Dakota 20 that I bought off Ebay apparently Brand new. After a web update last week the unit would no longer boot up.. System Software Missing.

I contacted garmin and they won’t warrant the item if bought from an online auction site. The Garmin guy I spoke with asked if I’d bought it from GPS R US and guess what… somethings are just not to be trusted for the sake of saving a few shekels..

    :pinch: That sux bat

IS there no hope of the software re uploading from the Garmin site????
When I update my Garmin software it does (mine is an older Map76)

Shouldn`t mater a brass razoo where you bought it really. It should have to be registered with Garmin anyway for the software & mapping updates and should have warranty from new too (also from Garmin)

I assume your unit had the registration paperwork and serial numbers etc etc ?????

Yeah I registered it straight away.

The problem now is the PC won’t see the GPS any more so it can’t update. Garmin said its dead and they can’t fix it.
I might get lucky with them but we’ll see in a few days.

I’ve contacted the dude I bought it from so maybe he can help out. The dodgy bit is that Garmin already have had some issue with stuff sold by him.
I may get lucky but I don’t know yet.

I really rely on GPS too it’s got me out of some really tight spots on my own over the years.

Magellan XL was my favourite… it went West when I was going North though

Giday CrOw3 that can be frustrating, had a similar problem a few years ago buying a nuvi 310 on line

I didn’t check sellers feedback till I was have problems a month later this was when I realised something

was wrong. Unable to register my new $500.00 Garmin . After some time I was able to get a phone no

for Garmin and try direct aproach, they told me a container of goods had been stolen and my new

GPS unit was part of that container so I backed away very quickly .

Just bought a disc over the counter to update later on .

Montana 650t is good unit , bought it on line to but from a reputible company this time.

    bones
