Hi all, nice site.
Been out of riding for the last 12 years. I’m hitting 39 this year and had an overpowering urge to ride again. Went from no bikes to 3 bikes in 6 months.
Picked this up at a clearin sale on Sunday.
Underneath all the grime and neglect is a fully optioned up ’89 model XR600 fitted with a 630 Big Bore kit. Lots of aftermarket goodies have been added at some stage. Needs some TLC. Also needs a new kick start lever as I broke the original today.Of course I didn’t really need another bike. I picked this up cheap 2 weeks ago.
It’s a cheap Chinese 250cc dirt bike. No where near the build quality of the Honda but pretty good value for money. Bit of fun to ride as well now that I have the suspension sorted.
And I also have my roadbike.
Cheers
Rod

April 13, 2010 at 11:32 am #175929Thanks for the warm welcome.
I am out at Yetholme near Bathurst. On 87 acres that backs into the Sunny Corner Forest. So lots of lovely dirtbike riding straight out my back gate. I was watching some of the A4DE on Saturday from my front gate.
Well spotted. It is an ’83 Honda CX500. I have done a bit of work to it to turn it into a Cafe Racer style bike. The old girl is just a joy to ride fast.
The XR was an eye opener this morning. I had a very quick ride on her and lots of power there. I am planning to strip it down in late May and rebuild her. Re-do the frame, engine etc. Really give her a good tidy up,,,,,,,, and then get her all dirty again.
Thanks Micknmeld, I am looking for a new kickstart lever and knuckle if you know where I can find one? Mine broke this morning right through the knuckle.
Might see some of you out this way in the forest.
Cheers

April 13, 2010 at 11:07 pm #175960Welcome to the capt furious.
Be careful when you meet the XR owners as they might just try and dry hump your leg. That’s how excited they get when another XR owner shows up here.
Enjoy the site mate. There’s heaps of info and heaps of good blokes on here.
We”l have to hook up for a ride as I live not to far from you.

Hi Mal, always up for a ride. Might take me a while to get the XR tidied up and registered though. At the moment I have been using the (unregistered) Chinese bike,,,,, only on our property of course
Been practising my wheelies on it, well, trying to get my confidence back to wheelie. Found the XR much, much easier to get up.
Still not very good, though I have no problem doing a wheelie on my horse.
April 13, 2010 at 11:43 pm #175930ahoy there captain…welcome to OBT…love the Gimp look
