Those of you who know me,will know I don’t mind a smoke or two (hundred).
I have been a Winfield Red smoker for 30 years and as of last night hopefully I have had my last one. At 5pm last night I stubbed the last one out in the shed. This morning the missus took great pleasure in whacking a Nicorette patch on me before I headed off to work. The patch seems to be working as I haven’t smashed anyone’s face in today :S
Actually the day hasn’t been as hard to take as I thought, it has helped in the fact I have been pretty busy all day.
Are you supposed to lick the patches??
So heading onto my first 24hrs without a ciggie in God knows how long,I am doing OK so far.
Anyhow here’s hoping I can stay strong.

May 17, 2010 at 5:40 am #179359WTG Michael, a long and healthy future now awaits you…
In the past 15 days I have not smoked for 8 of them, unfortunately not 8 in a row, lots of 2 and 3 day stints, but it’ll work out…..
I’m kicking myself cause I was smoke free for almost a decade until mid-last yr…….
But you will do it….
May 17, 2010 at 5:42 am #179361I am also open to sensible suggestions that may help me in my quest, from others who have quit the habit.

MurphThanks Murph,
Believe it or not,I had a run with the Turkey’s for a few years. Made a mess of me on more than one occasion. What got me off them was reading an article about Evel Kenevel, when asked what his biggest ever mistake was, he replied “Drinking Wild Turkey” that is coming from a bloke who did lots of stupid things,Cirrhosis of the liver is what got him in the end.

I gave it a lot of thought TB and by putting it out there, maybe it will put that bit more pressure on me to succeed.

May 17, 2010 at 5:59 am #179346Hi Mick,
I’m off the sticks as well since the Monday following the Sofala ride, straight up cold turkey.. First three days was hard but got easier.. If you can avoid alcohol for a week or 2.
Be careful with the patches and/or gum as some people just get addicted to those..
I have found with me it seemed to have been more about the habits involving smoking than the crave for the nico..
Example: Drinking a beer or Rum, coffee or after a meal or sex, etc… Working in the shed this weekend I kept (out of habit) walking over to where I kept em on the bench and realized there were none there
2 weeks now and certain tastes and flavors are already changing..
May 17, 2010 at 6:17 am #179347Wow … that is fantastic news and one that has my support all the way.
Just think of one big advantage of doing this. You will ride so much better, faster than before and your lungs will be full of good clean air. The boys will have trouble keeping up with you.
If you need extra help … a friend of mine who has smoked same number of years as yourself tried hypnotherapy and had great success.
Just stay away from any motivator’s at the moment….
1 Grog
2 Sex
3 Coffee
4 Quiet times :S…. doesn’t sound like fun but as CEL said I’m sure it gets easier.
