NO I have substituted the ciggies with a bad attitude, sketchy behaviour,a wild look in my eyes and a general cat on a hot tin roof persona. Oh and a nicotine patch or two.

good luck with it mick. its a battle.

i tried cold turkey and lasted a few days. :(

i tried patches and lasted a few weeks. :(

now im on these ‘champix’ tablets. you still smoke for the first 8-12 days then you stop. they are supposed to stop the craving and make em taste crap.
im not due to stop duuries till next monday.

i think they are working already coz while i was in hospital most of the weekend and didnt even think about smokes. they didnt even cross my mind. i did have one as soon as they let me out and it wasnt really satisfying.

i was sceptical about taking drugs to give up, i tried Zyban years ago and they made me loopy  (so i was later told  )
i am having no side effects so far either.

might be something to think about should you falter mate.

    good luck mick,

hurling some abuse in the cowpatt might help relieve some sympoms too

Hey Menace, does Sam smoke too??

Oh bugger, you went cold turkey for a few days, then lasted a week or two on patches?? Here’s me thinking I was doing well making it to two days on patches, I was kinda hoping it would start getting easier in a day or two from now.

Hey Mick if you go cold Turkey and can last 3 days you should be alright.. having a partner who also smokes and does not stop with you is almost a guarantee for failure imo… I’m not a believer in substituting one drug for another makes no sense to me and only enriches the pharma companies..

It is hard alright,if it was easy to give up, no one would smoke. ;) I dont go to the pub anyhow so that makes it a bit easier. My shed is going to be a challange though, just gotta keep my mind busy I spose.

I am thinking about not using a patch tomorrow and see how I go, I put one on as I left for work this morning and before I got to the corner, I was in a bit of a spin, not a good spin either. :S

Mick i used the patches and I reckon they really helped. The say to keep using them for up to a month. Don’t quit using them yet. Keep going and stay strong.

The other thing I was told was to drink orange juice. It is suppossed to help cleanse the nicotine from your system. I don’t know if it helped or not but what ever you think is helping is a good thing ;)

If the urge hits you in your shed Mick just have another beer instead. I kept drinking when I gave up and my wife still smoked and tried to tepmt me with them. I remeber one time when she walked up behind me and reached around with a lit cigarette and put it in my mouth. I had 1 little puff and that was enough to keep the cravings away for the rest of the nigt. It had been a week or 2 by then though.
The important part for me was getting the right mind set, every time i tried to give up before I would talk myself out of it by telling myself I didn’t realy want to give up and that I was just doing it because other people said I should.
I had a bad craving one day and used that lne on myself about not really wanting to give up and was heading for the car to go and get some. But on the way to the car I realised that I really did want to give up and it seemed to get easier from there.

Keep at it mate, I went 5 or 6 years without a cold, the flyu or even a sniffle when I gave up. I used to get at least 2 colds every winter when I smoked, so there’s another incentive.

hey mick…i know you a dreading your next beer for the pure fact that you will want to kill for a dart…BUT…believe it or not the beer tastes so much better when you dont smoke…so have another beer instead :cheer:
I noticed this when i gave up for about a week 5 or 6 years ago…i think that was attempt 134. ;)

Hang in there big rocks….day 4 and 5 are the hardest…..Get in the right frame of mind and you will get there ;)

GO MICK :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

    Bol :woohoo:
