With the Cape York trip only 11 days away I have been looking at some different trail meals for an evening in the bush. Owl02 (Gaz) had some lamb shanks once and although I didn’t want lamb shanks I went looking for where he got them to see what else they had and found these

    Meatballs with tomoto and basil

    And Cattlemans beef stew

These arent a dry meal and seem as they maybe ok. The only little problems I can foresee is they are a little heavier to carry (although you actually need to carry less drinking quality water) they have to be boiled in water so they will take a little more time and gas to
cook maybe won’t know until we try them

    Hi TB,

Either great minds think alike or we are both fools  , but I have just ordered a few of these meals to try. I plan to bring them of the APC dial in ride and try the three non-shank meals (meatballs, Stew, and mince/beans). I will be interested in how they pack and the overall impact of carrying slightly bulker meal options. Ofcourse this is all trial and error for the actual APC.
I have tried the dry dehydrated meals and they just don’t do it for me  so hopefully these are a good option.
They should arrive next week, so we will soon see.

Lotsa, Tryhard and myself have used the Sunrice meals from the supermarket and have found them to be quite tasty and are only $4 a meal with a few different flavours – Chicken in green curry, chicken in red curry, Beef korma and more. If youre hungry you might want 2 meals.

They come in a box with a chinese type food container inside with a sealed rice satchel and a sealed chicken & what ever satchel which is meant to be reheated in a microwave at home. We ditch all the packaging and tape the 2 satchels together to reduce the volume. Just remeber to write with texta on the satchel what flavour it is as the name disappears with the packaging.

You can heat the contents of the satchels together with a little water in your saucepan or as Tryhard did across the Simpson just have them cold – now thats hardcore

Where did you get the happy camper meals from TB? Aldi?
It will be interesting to see what you thought of them as Gaz thought the lamb shanks were pretty good

Do these come in BBQ pork ribs? I do like the sound of the lamb shank.
