    Went for a local lap for a couple of hours yesterday arvo but it just didn’t cut it.

    Pauly, the radiator expansion tank we where talking about,that i put on is from RLR Products in the U.S, it gives you peace of mind if it does start to boil over in very tight terrain it goes to the tank not the ground.Easy to fit in behind the side plate and $36 inc delivery to Oz is pretty good.

    The coolant i am running is Liquid Intellegence, comes in a metal tin from Suttos, others have it, but best to support Chris and the boys out there and it is what they use nearly all the time as well.Talk to Shaun in the workshop there,he is very switched on with all things KTM.Make sure you totally flush out the entire system as well.

    On Saturday down at Hattos Heaven, mine did not run that hot at all in the tight stuff and never even looked like boiling out to the tank.

    There are different opinions on this stuff,which has been discussed elsewhere in here, as it only raises the boiling point, but i prefer to run it, and the catch tank and keep all coolant where it is supposed to be.

    Another option is a fan,but they can be quite pricey,and also heavy on your battery if running alot.They draw a similar current to what your stator is putting out,and when riding tight stuff and then stop,the thermo switch can keep the fan running for 2-3 minutes while the engine is nostopped ,not long, but if you stop for a break 20 times in a day,it soon adds up for power being cosumed to whats going in. Some guys put a Manual switch in there and can switch on/off when needed,good idea.
    You could also upgrade your stator to a high output,but as you can see the price keeps creeping up.

    I think that could be the way I go.
    ie, run the thermo fan through a switch, maybe mounted on the bars. B)
    I have 2012 5 hungey and am boiling the damn thing a little on almost every other ride. :(
    True we do some very tight and technical rides but there is a special thermostat to look after that kinda shit..Supposedley??? ;) ;)
    I have bypassed the said thermostat and fan worked fine???
    So heres the delema. :blink: :blink: :silly:
    Do I go to the bother of taking my bike into the shop and wasting a day and let them fix it under warranty, for it will probably take them that long to put a new thermostat in. ;) :angry:
    Did price a new thermostat ($78)
    If it were only 25 or $30, would of just bought the part and fitted at home.
    I would like to be on my bike most afternoons next week just to finish off the new singles :sick: that Tim has made for our special ride a weekend away. B)

    Sounds about right Murph for the thermo switch mate :whistle:
    I got a Rally Raid one for my 690 from the UK & it cost me $70 landed here .
    It does lower my fan cut in temp from 105 degrees to 88 I think,,,,
    I am also going to run a switch as a backup ;)

    On topic again here .

    Part 2

    Another awesome fast firetrail section was tackled with more than one rider getting covered with water splashes from the rider in front. This led us to the rides tight, moist and warm section of singles. Second gear, on the pegs, not much throttle and the bars were never straight. A little slow but technical. And one massive log that we all cleared first hit, even the Gocman showed some form.

    I am not sure where they fitted in but we crossed three awesome creeks. Not much water but getting into and out of them was tricky. Slippery loamy descents and technical ascents. Usually the rut was the go otherwise you went nowhere. Marty450 and I built a bridge out of logs on one crossing to help with the angle of the bike and provide much needed traction. Only Crash and Gocman had traction issues, not counting Hatto who had to pave the way and clean the trail.

    Another crossing had an easy descent then bugger all run up for a tricky hill that you had to hit WOIF. Hatto, Crash and LC had trouble, the rest were ok as the rut was cleaned by LC on the bulldozer.

    The most daunting was a creek that you had to jump over. I was second to last to go over it but i was mucking around with Marty450 and not watching what was going on at the creek. Hatto just said the jump it. Gocman was before me and went down around decided to go around it. Little baby, what is the matter with him. Well I realised why Hatto said to jump the creek and why Gocman went left, it was 6 feet down. Yikes, when I saw this I was fully committed and freaked and just had to gas it up and hope it didn’t spin up and nose dive into the opposite bank and dump me off. Once over I decided to make my own way up the hill and not use the rut. Bad choice as I went backwards with Crash sliding down on his arse to help out and sconing himself with his helmet. Marty450 made short work of it as well as the Gocman who got himself across and up the hill OK.

    Coming out from this epic trail we regrouped at the top of Prozac Hill (Pics 2 and 3). A nice look down to the valley, it didn’t look too bad. Hatto warned us of what was ahead and we took it slow. Tricky off camber corners, loamy straights then rocky on the corners. Once in the valley we had some tricky rutted corners to handle with greasy uphills that had most having a few attempts at it. At the valley regroup Hatto asked me if I enjoyed the ride down the valley. I said “where is the challenge mate”. Ride back up was his reply.

    Lucky we pushed further into the valley along a creek and coming out at a very nice fast rocky uphill section. A wrong turn by Hatto led us to a sweet loamy hill that had the lads going in all directions when Pauly ran out of steam. Hatto was charging up with me behind when he had a moment allowing me to zip past followed by Ken on the big girl 530. The view from the top was sweet looking at the mess below. I pulled the camera out for some video action, which was posted up earlier on.

    Gocman and Hatto were the only ones of note to have direction issues. There were a lot of legs paddling up to the top. Nice to see LC riding the hill on the pegs…… for the last five metres. Classy.

    Everyone up ,we still had a tricky switchback strewn with rocks to get through. Pauly took a nasty tumble here and was bashed up a little.

    Hatto took us out onto a fire trail to get fuel and lunch. The bikes were able to get into the higher gears and the lads enjoyed the fresh air and higher pace.

    Not running a designated sweep brought us undone here. Crash was corner man with Marty450 last which resulted in a breakdown in communication with Crash waiting for Neville nobody to come past. A good 15 mins later the lads came along and we regrouped at the servo.

    Man, if this rule / recomendation is not adhered to, than things can turn to shit very quickly. ;) :(
    As I’m sure it has happened to everybody at least once… :pinch:
    Please, note that there are many rules to stick by, but that one relies on ya all playing the game. B)

    GDay Murph, The Liquid Intellegence Coolant will definetly help mate, and also a 1.8 Cap . You can get different temp switches but putting that manual switch on your bars would be the best bet.

    The RLR Catch Tank is for peace of mind on the hot days , but they really do give this Coolant a massive rap and something i would try first,Ballards also swear by it in all there bikes.

    I run liquid intelligence and ride all through summer on a high revving 250f and have no heating issues. I removed my overflow and have regulary checked the radiator level and it is not changed in over a year.
