I`m in the market for a spare heavy duty front tube, whats good and whats not?????
Boony
October 19, 2012 at 8:56 am #231013before running the mouse I used Ultra Heavy Duty by Michelin form suttos..
October 19, 2012 at 9:01 am #231019I’ve had Bridgestone in the front and rear for over a year and over 6500kms, heaps of tyre changes!
October 19, 2012 at 9:09 am #231020Really Boony  I am sure we have had this discussion before, I would have searched it but am sitting in the Rum Soaked Studio editing part 1 of the Hattah movie
I can only go on what I have run ok. Michelin Ultra heavy duty are simply the best in my opinion. $40 each, I got 2 bikes and 60k out of one before a railway spike (large nail) stuffed it and the tyre. Have never had a flat with one other wise in over 8 years of racing riding, adventure riding etc (only other flat valve was torn out when rim lock broke not a puncture
Bridgestone make the next best if not as good and thats it from experienceI know we have talked about it but again NO heavy duty tube compares to an ultra heavy duty Michelin or Bridgestone ultra
Look how thick they are
TB
October 19, 2012 at 9:09 am #231021either bridgestone H/D or michelin H/D boony both are 4 to 5mm thick and when i started using these in any of my bikes i never once got a flat
October 19, 2012 at 9:14 am #231023I am considering mousses but after years of continually smashing my rims into rocks and logs with ultra heavy tubes and not getting punctures I can’t be bothered buying them (going to Louee next weekend so i will probably get 10 punctures and wish I had mousse  )
October 19, 2012 at 9:26 am #231022There all good boony……..
4mm and up are all good..
My KTM mates tell me they dont get flats…
Jaz carnt wait to feed the ells again with your tin lids……. see ya in coffs.
…spud…October 19, 2012 at 9:39 am #231024have got flats with bridstone ultra heavy duty michelins ultra heavy to but only seems to happen when i have bald tyres but have found them the pick of the bunch. often hard to get hold of locally.stick with them i reckon just my opionion.have run tuff tubes before only lasted a couple of rides yet it was the thickest heavyest tube i have ever run(had a worn out dunlop mx51 0n but
October 19, 2012 at 9:34 pm #231014get a mousse boony and be done with it… UHD for the rear…
your KTM will love you long time
October 20, 2012 at 1:08 am #231052My kid,Tim just had v/v stem pull out of a brand new uHD tube
Will ask him what brand it was when I see him next
The tyre/tube had not moved around on the rim or at least there were no signs of this happening (no scuff marks on the tyre and the rim lock was nice and tight)
Just seems to of been a defect with the tube
He wasn’t happy as it cost him near $50 then had to buy another to fix the problem.
Cheers
MurphOctober 20, 2012 at 3:24 am #231054I never had a flat running Michy UHD’s for over 10,000Km’s and 2 bikes. I run mousses now though for peace of mind and not having the arse puckering moment wondering if my bad line choice is going to ruin my ride.
October 20, 2012 at 10:07 am #231057I havnt had a valve stem pull out since I gave Cheng Shin tubes away in my farm bikes 20 years ago lol. Still have a draw full of valve stem nuts from them lol.
I am not too brand loyal but I might give the Michelin ones a go by the sound of them.
I did ride a full lap at Uralla pony express a couple of years ago with a flat front on my old CRF. Put few big dents in the rim but I could not find the hole in the tube! Thats 20 odd km’s over a really rock strewn track. Couldn’t tell you what brand it was now though.October 20, 2012 at 11:14 am #231067i use bridgestone uhd tubes in my ktm450 for 6 years and 25,000km and never had a flat
got lazy once not checking tyre pressure and rode with 4psi in the front and still no flat
when i sold the bike the front wheel looked like a 50 cent piece and the back wasn’t much better. still had the same 6 year old tubes
i’ll be sticking with them and go with the michelin as a second choice if they start failing
finally found some uhd 17″ tubes that look like they will do the job. goodtire, made by bridgestone apparently
October 21, 2012 at 12:34 am #231069Tims UHD tube that failed was a Kenda
Might of just been a one off thing?????
He has a HD Bridgestone in it now
Cheers
MurphOctober 21, 2012 at 4:26 am #231081Bob had a Kenda (which I got for him  ) fail recently.
They seem nice and thick but maybe it is shit rubber, not cheap either.
