Hi, am planning on doiung a couple of desert rides next year, was wondering what peoples thoughts were on helmet cams. At the moment have narrowed it down to Go Pro or Drift. Any comments or suggestions ?????

I’ve been using the liquid image goggles which are comfortable and give a great picture ;)

They are very easy to use Aido , they have 2 large buttons on the side of the mask that turn it on and off, the other record and stop. They cost me $350 for the 760 bps camera but their is a 1080 avalible of about $500. STM has a 1080 go pro but says it takes a very long time to load onto the computor.
The goggles fit any lid ( well they fit my 4 different ones ) due to the outriggers that move for adjustment.

I think now the new go pros have as good quality if not better filming but I think in the bush these are less vulnerable to damage and you can see a small light to show when your filming on the go.

can you take still shots with the goggles, and how do you view playback ? do you need to download to a computer to see what you’ve filmed ?

    Hi Roy

I recently purchased a CONTOUR HD Camera 1080P from Torpedo7 and found it to be crap, I couldn’t rotate the lens to orient it, the rubber flap on the back is a joke, it’s suppose to be a seal  , anyway I got a refund and am going to buy one of these little beauties

Pro and Cons with every camera but I think the GoPro is hard to beat. The 60 fps option is the go for faster moving sports like ours. You can also get very creative about how and where you mount. There is s heap of online support, it is completely waterproof and tough as nails.

Hi Steve, I had an Oregon ATC helmet cam an earlier model and found it was pretty poor in it performance. It was hard to get set in the right direction, wasnt as good a wide angle option etc. The footage wasnt as good as the low res GoPro at the time. I now have a GoPro it’s an early model as well and works great and is as tough as nails.
On another note Salina went sky diving recently and the camera they filmed her jump with was a GoPro that had been dropped from 10000ft  It still worked fine, the jump company had a heap of them and they said they have dropped a few and never had to replace a camera  They used a wrist mount

    Just food for thought :)

I have a Drift HD1080 and find it very good but not as robust as the Gopro i dont think. hoping to upload a movie from the

christmass ride this week as soon as i pick up my computor from repair man. The drift is no good mounted on the bars

as the dr vibrates to much . the new smaller version maybe better .

Hi Pedro , my local shop in Grafton looked after me with the price as it was the 1st pair they’d sold so did a bit of a deal. ;)

They do take still shots to Roy , it’s easy to switch between video and still and the record button then takes the still.
