Anybody tried one of these little units ??
Looks ok for quick meals on the go, apparently only costs $9 at BCF with 24 tablets supplied (4 tablets boil 2lt water in 5 mins)
Very compact, weighs virtually nothing :laugh:August 9, 2011 at 11:23 pm #206728I used to use these in cadets back in high school. They do the job but you really need to keep them out of the wind and the two tablet rating is probably a bit less than what I remember them taking. They do heat things up though and at $9 it is a good deal versus a light weight hiking setup which can cost hundreds. Just use a thin alloy pot for fastest heat transfer.

August 9, 2011 at 11:27 pm #206737Used to use them in the Army all the time however took about 5 mins minimum to heat about 600mls of water and that was with wind protection. 2lts in 5 minutes, I reckon they are dreaming.
August 9, 2011 at 11:40 pm #206740I had one too eagle and for what they are they aren’t bad but do take a while to boil!
I think TBs JetBoil set up is by far the best unit avalible for the price. It’s very quick set up and very quick to boil.My 2c

Thought the hexamine would be cheap, light backup unit in case of emergency or broken Jetboil etc

August 9, 2011 at 11:53 pm #206730The unit I am after is a lot more exy than that
