Have you noticed they deleted your post (and others) regarding the Husky prize.
still no word.June 15, 2011 at 9:43 pm #203444No I hadn’t been back there today.
Bastards!!
They don’t like us Bathurst guys very much. We ask way to many questions.
I’ll get onto it soon mate.
June 17, 2011 at 12:44 am #203445Good to see we are stirring the pot again, will be very interesting to see who gets the bike and if they are a new or current member, my guess will be a very well liked member or a trophy hunter
June 17, 2011 at 3:35 am #203446Hi Medogrocket this is Hot2Trot and I notice your current ride is a Berg 450. I also have a 2008 Fe 450E with 900 k’s on it only had the bike 8 weeks just love it.
I was on the OBT ride and had a ball but my berg’s front end kept sliding away. Probably the reason was that I lowed it by winding the mono spring tension to its lowest setting. I knew nothing about static sag or spring tension and rider sag.
I have since reset the static sag which was 300 mm to the required 35 mm and the rider sag is now 300mm , I believe this to be the correct settings , can only just touch the ground with my toes but hopefully this adjustment with lower tyre pressures say 15 psi will help keep the front end tracking well.
These Bergs up to 2008 carby models are 109kgs dry weight and seem to go very well , not to sure about the later models with fuel injection , I have read about some teething problems and ther are just a little heavier.
Enjoy your Berg just love mine and had the greatest weekend ride ever at obt even though I crashed 3 times.

June 17, 2011 at 9:20 pm #203447Gday Mr Hot2Trot
Yep I met you at the Birthday ride, I was one of the lead riders, anyway it is important you get the basic sags right with any bikes setup, you wrote that your completed sags were 35mm bike any 300mm rider, hope the 300 was a typo
Anyway 95-105mm rider sag and 35mm static
The rear is very important as it effects the geometry/balance of the bike the most, get it right!!
You can also adjust the sag on the front but can’t remember the settings, the other thing I would highly recommend is dropping the forks through the tripple clamps to the 2nd scribe mark, makes the bike turn that bit betterIf your into researching have a look at this site
http://www.husaberg.org/index.phpJune 18, 2011 at 3:41 pm #203617Hello Tim
Thank you for your reply , yes 300 mm was a typo error the rider sag is 95 with a static sag of 35 mm. I can’t wait to try the berg again.
I notice you had a fe 550e before your current fe 450 . I have been looking at the 550 . Are they a better bike , which one do you prefer. I used to ride a Honda 650 R which was just so heavy in singles but great where the going was easy and bullet proof.
Just love the Berg 450 , would it be a mistake to update to a 550 , I am just an average rider grade 3 plus , have ridden for years on easy hills and through the bush , I also have a Harley Night Rod Special but for now the Berg is a real Blast !!
I just love the concept of OBT organised rides with sweeps cornermen etc.
So the Berg Fe 550 weighs the same as the 450 and should handle the same. Do you prefer your 450 or miss your 550.
Cheers, Vincent (One flash and you’re Ash !!)
June 18, 2011 at 9:37 pm #203448gday Mr Trot
Yep I totally without question miss the 550, the 450 for me has been the worst decision I have made when it comes to bikes, don’t get me wrong the FE450 is a good bike but just not for me also this 450 and I have, lets say quite a bit of history! maybe another FE450 would be different.
The weight is the same but the 550 feels a bit heavier in the singles due to the gyro effect of the big girl, my 550 was setup much much better than I have ever been able to get the 450 so for me that has been the biggest disappointment.
Do your research on the 550 if you go that way as they gave the most issues eg engine main bearing failures, apparently 07, 08 models this issue was fixed.
Did you lower the forks in the tripple clamps, it does help, but try both ways and see what you prefer, also if you do this make sure you torque the bolts on the triple clamps as stated, 17Nm top, 12Nm bottom otherwise you will effect the fork actionfunny post this one now, when from Hey Mal5.1 to a BERG tech thread
See ya

It’s ok dog boy.
Bergs need all the tech threads they can get….
Serioulsy though the 550 was way better. I rode both and the 550 handled the best. I think it was an 06 model which I also think it had different fork internals.
June 19, 2011 at 3:28 am #203664Sorry Guys Mal5.1 and Medogrocket Tim,
I am new to the forum and just noticed in Tim’s signature his rides and just replied to Mal5.1 post instead of starting a new thread on Husaburgs technical stuff.
Maybe the topic Mal5.1 is a great way to mask the real Berg issues from the world Ha! Ha!
My Berg is a 2008 model with 1000 kms on it , last of the carby models and maybe has all the issues worked out , It goes like a scalded cat although and just love riding it. The battery on my Harley will run down as i’m just having too much fun on the Berg.
Hey Tim, do you have an overlaid water hose protecting the water hose and connection to the water pump , a rock hit my water hose where it joins the water pump housing and severed the hose,. luckily we were able to cut the piece off re-attach it and use camel back water to fill raidiator. Slippery old beefsteak hill just off the 6 foot track at Hampton state forrest.
So good to see the sun again
Cheers for now , Hot2Trot — VinnieJune 19, 2011 at 12:19 pm #203690I have a 550 for sale if your keen
June 19, 2011 at 6:35 pm #203449good on ya Jeffro, never miss a chance! Hey while we are at it I have a 08 Fe450 for sale.
Mr Hot
You had a look at the protection on my Berg at the Bday ride, bit of radiator hose with the right bend, cut in half and cable tied on, works a treat, also recommend either changing the clamps on the other hose connection to some standard hse clamps or carring some with you so you can do a bush repair if needed
June 19, 2011 at 8:24 pm #203707G’Day Tim
It’s good to finally know it was you I was talking to as I suspected , thanks for the tips . With the spare hose clamps do you mean water hose clamps or carby intake large hose clamps , I think U told me to watch out for those rubbers cutting through and to watch possible dust intake if those hoses failed.
Jeffro the 550 sounds great but I better work out this 450 for now even though I would love to ride / try out a 550. I really need to get a plug spanner and general tool kit , can’t keep relying on my mates kit. The factory riders really make the Bergs look so good going over the huge drain pipes and doing stuff expected of a trials bikle only.
look forward in meeting you guys again some day
Too Hot !!!!
June 20, 2011 at 3:42 am #203450yes the water hose clamps, from the factory some are the crimped on type so need to be cut off if the hoses need to be replaced, yep keep an eye on those rubber carbi boots
June 20, 2011 at 2:30 pm #203759Thanks “Rocket the Sprocket”
How did you ever get a forum name of Medogrocket , mine came from http://www.hot2trot.com.au and it is me of course
Yes I see what you mean I will definately get some spare water hose clips for the crimp ones and watch the boots on carby as well , great advise.
I will owe you consultancy fees if you keep giving me all of this advise.
Thanks again Old mate.
Vinnie
