I registered for this site a while back and just haven’t had the time for a lot of reasons to get on it. It looks like a great site and it is definitely time to say hi! I have lived in the Newcastle area for a while and have just moved out to Swan Bay. Unfortunately I only have general ideas of where you guys get out and ride. I ride an 09 DR650 and unfortunately it spends 99% of its time on the tar at the moment. Would love to tag along on a nice easy ride one day when things settle down and meet a few of you. In the meantime would love some advice from you guys on tyres. As I said, I do a lot of road riding and a lot of it is at highway speeds. What experience/suggestions do you all have re a good all round DR650 tyre. ie wont disintegrate on the highway and will give me ok grip on loose stuff? The stock tyres aren’t very good off the tar. (Or maybe it’s just me!)

Look forward to chatting to you all!

    Hi Tones39
welcome to OBT you are in a great area to get on a heap of cool rides, I live up the north coast and it’s always well worth effort to ride with any old bulls.
I have only ridden limited kms on tar on my DRZ but I had a Bridgestone ED78 rear for a ride to Cameron Corner in October and its done 3500km and still has heaps of life , we did a bit of tar on the way home and it handled very well.

    catch you on the trails

Thanks Nick and TB. I had looked at the 606’s and they may be the go. For the forseeable future I will be using the bike a lot on the road….. Low key adventure riding sounds right up my alley. Plus I have to ride to and from wherever it is. Keen just to get out there again and relax. With my dicky knees i can’t be doing a lot of the things I could do when I was 18 and riding like a mad man. (had a 20 year break from bikes due to a “handbrake”, she’s gone now) so I am back on two wheels but struggling to find time to ride anywhere except to and from work when I am not pandering to the needs of children at the moment. Things should improve in a few months or so…. I hope.

Have bunged this site in favourites and plan to spend a lot more time on it. Can learn a lot from you all and look forward to doing so!
