Hi Guys and Gals. Typing from Canowindra NSW. 60ks south of Orange. Been meaning to join for some time but never got around too it. I have a 2000 XR650R set up as a dual sporter and a 2003 WR450 for the dirt. Always preferred the thumpers myself but looking at some softer options. Had a look at this site again. See a few familiar usernames from ADV and dirtbikeworld :) Thats my current bike life in a nutshell!

Hi mate , I had my first trip to Orange this year on the way back from the Cameron ride and it welcomed us with snow. Not something we see on the far north nsw coast and it was bloody cold riding, loved every minute !!

    Welcome to the site :)

    When I got her

OK I know she ain’t purdy but she suits me ATM. Yes, I know the rear tyre looks poxy but $$ dictate that it wears out before another goes on.

I’ll take some of the WR when I get a chance and post more in the My Garage section.

That is one sweet looking XR. How many K’s has it got on it it looks like brand new. There is hardly any scuffing on the clutch cover.

Thanks Mate. bought it a couple of years ago from a young fella in Canberra. I saw an ad and headed over at sparrow the next morning. i rang him to hold it for me as it was original with only 6,000 ks on it. it’s a 2000 model. It was spotless.

He said it was too much too handle and wanted to get rid of it before it got rid of him. I had a XR600 so I kinda knew what to expect power wise but I was waaaay out. I took it for a test ride and nearly layed it down at the first roundabout. Parted with some coin and bought it home on my tow hitch carrier.

Gave it the once over as you do. No wonder it was a deadly weapon. He had 45psi in the rear tyre!!!!! I dropped it to 25 and it was a different beast. his loss, my gain. I have done nothing power wise because for me and my riding it has plenty of horses. I’ts setup for more dual sport touring and ADV stuff.

however I still have all the original goodies in the workshop just in case I get the urge again B)

Would be a shame to put it into the scrub and mess it all up seeing it has gone this long and still looks new. What I would like you to do is put it back in your shed and stop riding it. I will ring you in a couple of years once I have payed off the Mrs credit card I am about to cut up. No seriously enjoy it but be nice! I just like to keep coming back to this thread so I can look at that Fat Black Oval Exhaust! mmmm On your home front I went down your way a year ago and stayed at Turners Vineyard at Orange to watch the big race, Westrac’s shout ;) . While on the shuttle bus I saw some fine looking hills to ride. Very nice. Look forward to the pics of the WR. Aaron.

Your story sounds similar to mine.
I had an XR600 with the HRC 630 kit in it and thought it was the ducks guts.

    Untill

I test rode the Fiddy and it lost traction on the tar, with road trail tyres on it. That sold it to me. There was bugger all comparison between the two bikes.
It was in all but mint condition when I got it with about 9000kms, it has 16000 on it now and hasn’t really missed a beat.

Photo I took at the test ride.

Not too many people who work for westrac would get to go on a trip like that only people they think they could(or have) swindle money out of. No we are into shiftin dirt .
Yeah I know you wouldnt throw in a tank of fuel. By the size of the tank it would double the price of the bike
