So what did you reckon to 530 compared to the XR?
On the grounds I may dig a deeper hole for my self I will refrain from answering that.
Na stuff it……..The 530 is a weapon and I enjoyed every second on it!!!Now I will have to spend several hours working on it getting it ready for the next ride. There I said it.
Read my report in the KTM section if you want to know my thoughts on the beast.August 27, 2008 at 5:19 am #107484moto wrote:

AnonymousWent to have a read of your report, good stuff
Interesting to note that you bought bark busters and a bash plate when all 08 models were supplied them free from the dealer? Maybe you got in so early you missed out on that.
I haven’t ridden a 530 but am keen to have a go and compare to the 450, especially in the cornering department. Thinking about getting the Akro pipe for mine, but have spent enough on bikes in the last couple of months.
I supposed to be buying furniture for home with the girlfriend. I never needed adining room table until she moved in :p
Mine has 67 hours on it now and I’m wondering how the valves are holding up, KTM recommend a new top end at 90 hours
August 27, 2008 at 10:45 pm #107457The 530 came standard with hand guards but no bash plate.KTM were gunna send a bash plate out when they became available, obviously they never became available as we never saw one!!!
The hand guards didn’t offer the protection of the Barkbusters, so they were fitted and have stood up well and look trick.
The thing sounds sweet with the Akro, maybe a bit loud for some peoples likings, but where we ride, noise isn’t really a concern. My brother bought the pipe in Japan for about $700 as opposed to the extortionate prices being asked here in Australia.
We checked the valves at 50hrs and they were all still in spec, the bike just hit 100hrs on the weekend and it is running better now than when it was new in my opinion. So I don’t see the need for a top end in the near future.August 27, 2008 at 10:53 pm #10756890 hrs for top end ha ha, read that chicken whats the old girl done now 40,000 + kms for maybe 6 valve adjustments, gee my 650 got its 2nd valve adjustment in 3 years the other day
Screw and nut me think much better than bucket and shim
XR’s built to last more than one race
August 27, 2008 at 10:59 pm #107458My XR is 8yo and never had the valves adjusted. That is one of the reasons I love my tractor. Ride it, wash it, stow it, then repeat process.

AnonymousI doubt mnany well maintained bikes will need top ends at 90 hours. KTM recommend that if you ‘race’ the bike it’s done at 45 hours!
In fairness the XR and the EXC-R aren’t built for the same thing. You wouldn’t do well rocking up to an enduro race at a good level on an XR. But for the ride and forget weekend trails….
I plan to race soon so wanted something that is 100% up for the job out of the box
August 27, 2008 at 11:42 pm #107459I agree moto, The XR and the 530EXC-r are two totally different bikes, with years of difference in technology. The XR600 pretty well remained the bike to beat in its day and most of the dedicated trail masters had one at the time.
If I had to choose which bike to go on the 3 state ride the KTM would stay home in the shed as the XR would be in it’s element having a seat and all.
The KTM is a much easier bike to ride in the techie sections in the bush though,I love that light clutch.
Still love the tractor though, took it for a spin last night, love to get a set of motard wheels for it, but explaining that to the missus would be a waste of time.LOLSeptember 1, 2008 at 5:20 am #107460Hey Moto how was your ride on sat in the watagans, we saw lots bikes all over the watagans but I dont know if we passed you there are lots of KTMs there but I thought you may hace noticed us as I am sure there arnt many XR650s getting around out there on sat.

AnonymousHey TB:) The ride was ace thanks, it was my first DB ride and I had a ball. The guys are really friendly and we had a good laugh, even though we did have a small issue with losing the leader 3/4’s in!
I did keep an eye out for you guys, we did see a few other riders, but no XR’s. I’ll keep an eye for future rides you guys are doing up this way, I’m keen to meet up with you boys and go for a burn. You can show me what the red tractor’s about
I read th report from your ride, sounds like you had fun too. It’s all about getting out on the bikes….

I posted in the thread when you asked why your thread with the link to here was deleted by the ‘dark overlords’.
As mentioned before, I’ll keep my eyes posted for the next ride…..
