I purchased a set of high bend bars today and have just loosly fitted everything. Problem is I am going to be about 1.5 to 2 cm short in length with the throttle cable. It is long enough until i fit the brake perch. There on a DRZ if that helps at all.
Any help much appreciated.
February 4, 2010 at 9:47 am #170276could you reroute the throttle cable differently along the frame to regain that 1.5/2 cms????

February 4, 2010 at 10:09 am #170282I know when I put the 20mm bar raisers on the DRZ I thought I may have the same issue, however everything fitted well..
maybe unhook the cables from all the holders and just see if you can pinch that 2 cm ,,you may be suprised??
February 4, 2010 at 10:19 am #170283Jak I also got high bars on mine. Have a look at your throttle. On mine it is positioned on the bars so the cable comes out the bottom and under the brake lever mount.
I have noticed other DRZ’s with the cables up top running over the top of the brake mount. If yours is like this you may find a couple cm if you turn it with the cables down bottom.
February 4, 2010 at 10:22 am #170285mine run over the top scotty,

It works
Does having the cables underneath affect them in any way? They were originaly on top.

No mine run fine underneath. I think the throttle housing is less vulnerable to crash damage that way too.
February 4, 2010 at 11:11 am #170277only thing i can think of John, is : it there a drain? hole in the twist grip, cable cam thingy?
i did the same thing to K8ii the other day, as when i turned full lock to the right it would gain revs, only 1-200rpm but enough to be a pain. and if it was revving up it means it was pulling/ stretching the cables ??
so i did the same, looked to see if i could gain any length under the tank, no go.
so i turned the cable/ throttle cam housing thiny  ( someone please tell me what it’s proper name is ) so it run under the perch and gained nearly 2″.
however it has a small hole in the housing, drain? lube access?
if the throttle turns all the way to WOT and returns without sticking it should be fine.
February 4, 2010 at 11:34 am #170296Has got non of thingamebobs xy.
But i found out the killswith/starter perch has a locating knob on it. Checked with the old bars and there is a locating hole drilled in them. No hole in the new bars so i’ve cut the knob off.
February 4, 2010 at 9:39 pm #170297I have on my bike and others including a DR had to run to cables on the riders side of the bars (not behind the head light) and straight under the fuel tank if that makes sense. I will take a picture later. This gives you heaps of free cable

BoonyBoony its always been that way since I got the bike from GHR, because of the 2 inch bar lift from the aftermarket triple clamp combined with Kevin Windham high bend bars the cables would never be long enough.
As I said before I have done it with other bikes including DRs with high bend bars both on and off road use
