On Rowans request that I run a few bikes through his trails to keep them clear from time to time, I decided whilst we opened them up a bit last weekend , we would send a few bikes through again today. A few calls were made and we had a crew of keen trail blazers ready to cut some more trails at Rowan’s.
WE had Connor on his KX85, Moose, Puddles, new OBT recruit Jeff and myself as confirmed starters for the day.
We had to meet at the usual spot when we head west.
And headed to the Rowan’s, where we didn’t waste anytime kitting up, Rowan was short on brownie points after a four day fishing jaunt, so he had to stay at home while we went riding, that would have hurt a bit.
WE started the bikes and it quickly became obvious something was amiss with my XR, there was a wild buzzing sound coming from the engine and oil was dripping from the oil pump/oil filter housing. I changed her oil the night before and it had an issue with how the cover had been bolted on in my half pissed state. Anyhow I had to lay her on her side to take the cover off and clean the seal on the housing and all was good, except I had a bit of oil spilt on the engine. Puddles thought it necessary to take my photo at this moment.
Anyhow with that fixed the pig decided she didn’t want to go and after about 10 kicks I was stuffed.
Again Puddles took my picture. In the end I resorted to a clutch start, she fired up and didn’t miss a beat for the rest of the day. WE went straight into the bush near Rowans house and you drop straight down a bank into a creek, this is where Puddles had his first off for the day. Maybe 3-400 meters into the ride…LOL
The first trails are a bit overgrown with lantana but then open up into nice loamy un rutted singles as good as anywhere.
Connor
Jeff
Puddles was so fast the camera couldn’t keep up.
Moose once again got the sweeps job.
There are plenty of abandoned logging trails to explore and we found some great new ones that offered a challenge or two.
Jeff peddles the Kato well considering he hasn’t ridden in months.
I suppose logs look heaps bigger when you are on a 85.
Puddles on his 450 had no troubles.
Mosse just chugging along. It look wrong that he isn’t on Ol Burple his old faithful XR600
One of our rest breaks.
It was hot today and Connor drank so much water we had to do wee stops for him.LOL
Moose an Puddles enjoy the moment
Phots never do hills justice but this was one of our more challenging down hills we did today.
Connor send the KX down over the loose rocks.
Puddles had a bit off strife. He looks outa shape in this pic
Yep Outa shape.
A Sweet little crossing a few OBT boys may recognise
WE gave this uphill a go
It was a good challenge and Connor flipped his KX in his valiant attempt, He had made it past the worst of it too!!!
We found some more strails that can loop into other rides I do so now I have another option as far as loops go. A few guys will remember “Phone Hill”, a monsterous very steep down hill single that goes on forever that we did on my birthday bash. We headed there for some bum puckering down hill action.
Once again the photos betray the hills incline.
At the bottom of phone Hill would have to be some of my most favourite single I have ever ridden,
A $99 trail camera cant always be relied on to capture the moment with a high degree of clarity but still good to carry.
They lead to the big hill that caused all the carnage on My birthday bash. We rode to the bottom so the boys could admire its daunting appearance, Moose couldn’t help himself and roared up it and not miss a beat. I was the next to take on the hill and the awesome combination of my Pirrelli scorpion and the power of the XrR made it look easy so Jeff had a crack and got rutted but with shear determination made it over the lip. Puddles and Connor had the stuff that look on their faces so we rode back down to where they were waiting.
A pic of Moose at the bottom.
Moose was happy to see Phil bring up a cold beer after the ride. What’s with the hat Phil?
WE are truly blessed living here with the trail riding options we have. Thanks Phil for the use of your property once again and thanks to the boys who shared another great day with me.

April 11, 2010 at 9:33 pm #175728I have just spent the last hour studying old topo maps and google earth and I have discovered that there is a large loop in the Rock knob area that needs exploring. No doubt it would be over grown but it is definately there, so next free weekend I have, that is where I’ll be heading with a saw. It will cut out about 1km of fire trail and will add about 3-4km of single to the new loop we rode this weekend. Maybe next Sunday. I am excited already. :woohoo:
Nothing like discovering new stuff that you have ridden past heaps of times.!!

I think myself & Jeff could be free next Sunday as the Kids are racing on Saturday.
I should be over my sore head by then after hitting it on the roof of the trailerApril 12, 2010 at 3:46 am #175730Puddles wrote:

With a young family they want to move to town for the kids sport and schooling etc, it is on 300+ acres and has two 5 bedroom homes on it.
It would be a great spot to run bike tours from. Asking $640,000.April 12, 2010 at 7:14 am #175792micknmeld wrote:
