Wasn’t the XL350 in a different era, that of my Fathers, as we had an old (was new then) XL350 farm bike when i was a kid.

650R’s are the only liquid cooled XR, any XR Moto

i don’t know definite years etc.

but the xl 250 R was up to 82, and a quick search just returned XL 350 R up to 86.

but the XL’s were early 70’s on.

So, what is the difference between the L and R TB or don’t you know either?

Of course I know, I thought even though you dont you would have cut and pasted something  Not knowning hasn’t stopped you posting before ha ha, only joking joyce

The R is the race model as such,

    Liquid cooled
    Kick Start
    Plastic Tank
    Bigger forks
    More suspension travel both ends
Alloy frame on early models not sure now though

The L hasn’t any of the above and is sort of like an NX, an Xr600 motor as such a touring model with as big a following in the states as the R model, and they both have a massive following over there

There is bugger all that can be changed over between the two they are that different

A mate of mine had a 350 and when riden very hard you could hear the oil boiling in the engine when you shut her down and the other habit it had was melting the dipstick off. But it seemed a good bike.

The XR350R got rave reviews from memory from the (then) honest blokes at ADB, it’s only opposition was a little lacklustre turkey or two from yamaha and Suzuki, which were really commuter bikes with high mounted guards. Was a torquey beast but a bit slow revving and like all XRs (exception the 650R) was a hot running little hiefer.
I was a bit sold on them as a liveable 4T, but a KLX250 got me instead :X ..big mistake.

They were alright for their era. They did have a reputation for cracking the head between the valves and the twin carbys were a bugger if you messed with them. They did also run very very hot, to the point of setting themselves on fire if you had grass seeds or whatever in around the engine. And since most of them had oil leaks of one form or another this was pretty likely. They were also a mongeral to start, particularly after being dropped when hot. But they handled like a dream (for their era remember!) and were a nice compromise between the 250 and the 600.

But I wouldn’t be in a hurry to own one now! Maybe to put in the shed as a nostalgia piece!

They did handle ECKS, my xr250 from the era was amazing, the cracked heads I was told had a lot to do with incorrect spark plugs being used? That was the 250 cracked head thing anyway. I did a two day enduro at Barrington and got stuck on a shitty hill all by myself no one around and could here the oil bubbling in the crankcase  was a great bike, I now miss that bike :(

Yep, I have not owned one, but may as well have done. A mate had a 250 and it was “my” bike when I didn’t have one while at uni. Top bloke! I put more miles on it than he did I reckon! I have also ridden the 350, similar but a bit more grunt. Quite nice really.

Actually, thinking about it, I would own one, just to ride every now and then to bring back old memories!
