We’ve just had an issue with scoring. All our races are 4 hours. In the past scoring has been simple. If you don’t come in after the 4 hour mark you have not finished. (eg you come past the tent at 3:59:50 then you have to complete another lap to finish). People have got around this by waiting before the score tent until the 4 hour mark and then coming through to get a finish and save the extra effort required to do the extra lap. They also run the risk that someone who is prepared to put in that effort will end up passing them, doing the extra lap and getting more points.

this has all been fine and worked well. Until now. We have just had someone who had completed say 2/3 of the time and pulled out due to mechanical reasons ask if they should get the points based on where they came by number of laps completed. So instead of 1 point for dnf they would get say 11 points as they come 10th after the 9 people who finished.

I can see a point for this method as we had another team in a grade at the last race coming 4th and went through at 3:51:00 and then failed. They get 1 point when in reality they had still done 1 more lap then the team that ended up 4th.

Anyway I was just wondering what other series do so I can make an informed decision. We are only club days and do not have sup regs defined but obviously we shouldn’t go against any ruling that is in MoMS either.

    Thanks

Roy don’t know what other people do but i think if you dont finish after the time you DNF.That could come back to bite me but it’s not in the spirit of racing to be able to stop early for what ever reason.( I have never ever done that!?) That is a question for soft people! Are you sure your not getting soft after moving to the ironman ranks! That is why I got out of that class  On another note I think it was a great decision to not have a dropped round in the points cause it makes people go to that round if it is a long way to travel etc etc. I say this even though it will affect me as I will be in NZ skiing on Narrabri pony x weekend. I will also miss out on the national round MX to be held at Moree. A double dose of suck :(

Aaron, thanks for the vote of confidence but at least this time it wasn’t me. Just a query from another poor sucker who rides solo.

I am in agreeance though. No finish then only 1 point. This is also what I have told the person in question. Something in my tiny little brain tells me the essence of enduro is endurance (of both bike and body).

I have sent an email to mnsw to see if they have any official rulings on what should be done (especially since we don’t have supp regs). Their response may mean a change in plans for next year. Will keep you informed.

I seen these clock watchers at the uralla round. They parked 200mtr away from the finish and waited for about 10 minutes,,I now know what they were doing, ..Why not just do another lap or just take ya losses.
    Boony

PS: I recon the local rounds are run pretty good.

I know what you’re saying boony and that is the one thing that I’d like to fix about the current dnf system. It sort promotes the blokes who couldn’t be bothered to do another lap and wait for time to be up. I know thye are taking the risk of someone manning up and keeping on going and getting past them and if no one does then at the day it has made no difference anyway.

You can’t just say anyone caught waiting will be given a dnf either as they will just wait further away where you can’t see them. I suppose at the end of the day they are not breaking any rules and they are actually giving people slower than them a chance to get ahead. It just doesn’t sit right in my gut that during a race people don’t want to race to the end and get as much riding as possible, especially the pairs.

Having said all that I was rather relieved that time was up at bike territory the other day. I didn’t wait to check and I would have done the lap crying like a busted old man but I can’t deny I was relieved to see the checkered flag.
