Being a person who likes to understand how things work, I am need of some help. How does the air screw on your carby work? I tried to unscrew mine during the carby cleaning process and it doesn’t come out so I couldn’t see in there. I understand how the idle screw works as it just holds up the slide which effects the gap for the air flow and the needle height in the main jet (or is the main jet blocked by the needle at idle).

So how does the air screw effect the air flow and according to by manual it only effects it at idle. Is this right? I thought it must have an effect at all revs and this is why your bike nips up if you get it wrong.

Whilst I’m on a roll I may may as well keep the questions coming (I can see why my kids constant questions are so annoying now). In the manual it says the slide and needle need to be replaced at 100 hours due to wear from vibration (it is a 2t after all) and the whole carby assembly/body after only 200 hours. Does anybody ever do this? I have never heard of any of my mates even replacing their slides. I realise the manual is keen on spare parts sales but was wondering if replacing the carby is something that is realistically required down the track.

The manual for my sons KX85 says that you have to change the rings after every three races. Um that definately didn’t happen.
Got near on three full race seasons on the one set of rings, before the piston cracked.
