Could someone please tell me the correct procedure for stripping down and re- greasing my linkage , I did it a long time ago but can’t remember what I did
I’ve heard plenty of stories of needle bearings rolling around the garage floor and would like to avoid this of possible
Thanks in advance

You’ll be right Nick it’s like riding a bike champ!
Just put a big magnet under it before you tear her apart mate…. Just to catch all the needles :silly:Good Luck,
LeftyJuly 30, 2013 at 8:32 am #247289If the needles are falling out technically the bearings are rooted or our riding a Chinese pit bike. See in the pictures attached the bearings are retained in the ends of the carriers
Also important is the seals if they are no good you may as well pack the bearings with dirt

July 30, 2013 at 8:44 am #247295So how often would you suggest to pull the bolts and grease ?
Is their any preferred sequence to remove the bolts ? All or one at a time ?

Depends on the bike, how you have it supported. All is better and do it on the bench

July 30, 2013 at 9:09 am #247299Oh wow, Nick.
KTM don’t have that problem. :pinch:
Just replaced the Heim joint in my 500
It took 6000kms before it was time to change it.
Did have the swing arm off to do said Hiem joint.
Did loose the roller bearings when tapping in the new Hiem Joint.
Bloody little needles everywhere. :pinch:
Might be time to change the swing arm bearings, I guess???
I think I got most back in. :woohoo:  :pinch:
Sorry, Nick
I guess this doesn’t help you much.
It may help other Kato rideres though
Cheers

July 30, 2013 at 9:23 am #247306I am pretty anal with this one Jacko and i do it quite often. There are end cap seals on both sides so i just remove one end and face that up. That now eliminates most of the risk of dropping a needle. Get a bit of paper towel and some metho and roll your finger around inside. Remove it gently so as not to dislodge a needle. Replace that end seal turn it up the other way, remove the other one and repeat. Then get a finger full of blue grease and pack that bad boy. Reassemble and then tackle the other one in the same fashion. Get them so full of grease that you can only just put it all back together and torque it to spec.
Now ride through a North Coast bog hole in the knowledge that you are as protected as you can be.STM

Yes like I said don’t hit them with a hammer  You can also use a vice or best a press. Be careful you don’t damage the bearings by applying to much pressure because it folds the end of the bearing cage into the rollers

July 30, 2013 at 10:07 am #247312WTF thought this was a piss take.Went and bought a press not to long ago to do this tedious shit ass job.Made it a rule to install grease nipples to most moving parts, hook on grease gun pump up n ride.
But if you have to replace bearings, once you have taken all the skin off your fingers n knuckle’s
removing the old ones,
Place new bearings in the freezer for a few hours, they will then fit straight in,not much swearing, hitting,,,,presing required. -
