AnonymousThis post is not meant as a shit stir or Yamaha’s are the best yadda yadda yadda.
But
When I bought the WR250R it came with a 2 year / unlimited KM warranty. All you had to do was take it in to the dealer to get it’s sceduled sevices done. First one at 1000km, then every 5000km after that. I asked at the time would I void the warranty if I completed oil changes in between the sceduled intervals as 5000km in an offroad environment is sort of a bit long. I was told that as long as I used Yamaha filters and oil all would be good. I drop the oil every 1000 to 2500km using genuine oil and filters. To cut a long story short, I ended up with a leaking fork seal on the 250. I rang Inskips (local Yamaha dealer) and told them the seal was leaking and was told to bring it over and it was replaced under warranty no questions asked. I know that a fork seal is not as big as a scored cylinder but I was impressed that they did warrant it as a seal could be classed as a consumable item and given that Yamaha forks have a problem with leaking, I cant complain about the 2 year warranty that Yamaha offers. Whether it would be the same case with a major failure I don’t know. Hopefully it doesn’t ever happen.
Another Yamaha warranty claim that we had was when Kylie had her TTR230. The wiring was never done right when they got ADR compliance and none of the lights really worked properly. Even though we were not the original purchasers of the TTR and it had in fact ran out of warranty, Yamaha still came good with the goods and got it to how it was suppose to be.

That’s the sort of service you would expect from a dealer Dan and I believe I would get that service from this dealer on fork seals and any other smallish warranty claim. The Sherco had a leaking fork seal and it was changed twice in the 3 month warranty and then once outside the warranty. The Sherco was purchased from a different dealer.
My gripe is that it took Husky 3 – 4 weeks to make a decision. I would of thought if a bike came into the shop with this type of failure, the engine would be dismantled, photos taken and emailed to Husky along with the parts needed. I would think in a matter of days and maybe a few phone calls a decision could be made and parts ordered. If the decision was made not to warrant the claim then I would still have to get the bike repaired and then take it further with Husky myself. But to stretch it out over 4 weeks and then not have the parts is just rediculous.Murph has said that Inskips are good to deal with as well.

Quote:Cheers Mal, wow a piston every 800kms that doesnt make for cheap motoring eitherTB
Judging by my log that equates to a new piston every 20hrs or about 5 or 6 rides.
Holy crap!
I would be looking for a 2 ring piston (assuming it has a single ring one installed), I will probably install one in the BMW when its time comes.October 19, 2009 at 8:55 pm #157228My DRZ had a 1 year warranty.
The only thing I tried to claim was blistering stickers on the petrol tank.
Dealer said he didn’t like my chances at all but he took photos and put the claim in.
About 3 weeks later I received in the mail: new tank and shroud stickers
I still have the 06 model shroud stickers if anyone wants ’em.October 19, 2009 at 9:48 pm #157230Now the Big question is who would buy a husky after reading this, they are doing themselves a big disservice and only really have themselves to blame.
CHris.
October 19, 2009 at 10:48 pm #157236Seeing as you usually only hear the worst stories I think it’d be a tad harsh to base judgement solely on this though it’d be something to strongly consider.

October 19, 2009 at 10:57 pm #157092Yeah i’d buy one, and theres probably heaps of stories like this for most dealers/brands out there at some time or other. If its a case of head office being tight with claims it will just burn the dealers, and brand.
October 19, 2009 at 11:06 pm #157250It seems pretty unreasonable to me, for there to be any question of Mal’s 300 being anything other than a fault from factory. Even if we disregard warranty in this case for a minute, the whole slow process is just not good enough. As Mal said he is lucky he has the Sherco to ride in the meantime, but if it were me in this situation I’d be without a bike – and totally pissed off.
To be honest I don’t think this is an issue with Husky warranty as such. More the slow paperwork side of things that has fouled it up. That being said, I don’t put much stock in warranty on dirt bikes. As long as the major things like engine/gearbox are covered for a reasonable amount of riding. And it appears as though the actual problem here IS covered, it is the delay that is the problem.

I would still buy one. I consider this to be a one off. Like ECKS said it’s the slow paerwork side that shits me. How do you deal with that at the dealer level. I could into the shop and slam my fist on the counter and demand something happen now and I can asure you my issue will be put to the bottom of the list. I know that’s what I do in my job.
October 20, 2009 at 11:35 am #157411The only bad service is slow and indecisive service. If a company says no I can deal with that but when it gets left for weeks on end then move on to a brand that either fixes your issue or has the balls to say they wont!
October 20, 2009 at 7:08 pm #157413I cant help thinking that some dealers a just slack.
I feel they want to sell stuff and are not too bothered with claims because they are administrative headaches requiring correspondence with several people maybe.
It’s easier to sell bikes and parts and accessories, thats about all some of them know.October 20, 2009 at 7:17 pm #157093The only warranty claim for me is a flasher for the blinkers. Happened to sh1t itself just before I was leaving home to get a blue slip. Rushed into coffs and got a new one no problems..Hope thats all I ever have to claim for. Touch wood.
October 20, 2009 at 7:28 pm #157421You needed a blue slip for a bike covered by warranty???
