Hi All,
I am currently looking at getting into the the ADV scene a bit, not giving away the singles but I am interested in the 2 day nav rides, weekends away with overnight pub stay, maybe eventually a trip to the corner etc.
I pretty much had decided on a DR650 but recently have been offered a very cheap Husky Terra 650 demo, only 48km on the clock.Do many ADV guys have the Husky and if so how do you find them?
I am a bit concerned about the availability of aftermarket gear, luggage, large tank etc and the fact that they probably wont be making them anymore. The dealer has said that they might but can’t be sure and that they have to carry bits for them for 10 years, also mostly the same as the beemer anyway.
They weigh 17 kg more than a DR.Decisions, decisions…………..
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers James
June 20, 2013 at 7:36 am #244003Have to agree with Jimbo on that one… the knowledge just on this site alone is GINORMOUS!
How will your Husky be after 50000km’s? How would your Ten be after 50000km’s? Just ask TB, he’s even got the pics!
June 20, 2013 at 7:44 am #244009Now you guys have got him thinking
Tenere for sure, a gentlemen once told me ” you cant look sexy on a DR ”

June 20, 2013 at 8:21 am #244012If you want a Tenere give me a ring TR, might be able to look after you better than you think (already sold one this week to an Old Bull). Failing that I would get a DR, spares are cheaper than the Tera, heaps more accessories, parts anywhere and Husky fuel injection is a reliable as a Russian space station  :pinch:

IMO (not meaning to offend any Husky owners just what I have seen)

June 20, 2013 at 11:16 am #243988The terra is a good thing, it’s basically the BMW g650 x challenge/ gs engine which will easily do 50k with no internal surgery. I’ve traded bikes with that engine with 100,000km and never had top ends off them, albeit they where lightly ridden off road if any.
If you are going to look at tenere than you should look at BMW sertao, it’s cheaper than the yam new and better spec. At least test ride all 4 models in the mix.
June 20, 2013 at 11:28 am #244037Acctually took one for a ride on Monday,Grate seating position, magicaly smooth engine, not xr 650 power but its there if needed.Really didn’t mind it.
No where near as powerful as the mighty v strom, but not bad IMO.June 20, 2013 at 11:38 am #243989hi mate if I remember correctly I think puddles just brought 1 have a chat to him.

June 20, 2013 at 1:09 pm #243990ohhhhh maaaannnnn
June 22, 2013 at 8:58 am #243991Ok, so I took the Terra for a ride today…….. not bad but it did feel a bit road bike too me.
Most of the grunt came up high, my inner thigh’s were rubbing on the seat / tank junction to the point that they were a bit sore by the time I had rode 20 mins.
This was probably more a case of me trying to get up on the tank more than anything, guess I am going to have to adjust to this adv thing a bit :whistle:It felt like it would be awesome on high speed, graded roads where you could flog along at 100 + but i’m not sure how it would go in flowing twin track  at 40K or so.
I have lined up a ride on a DR650 tomorrow if I can find a break in the weather.
still deciding……….
June 22, 2013 at 9:13 am #244245There are two models one more towards roadspec the other offroad which did you ride guessing roadspec by your veiw
June 22, 2013 at 9:27 am #243992Hey Looselink, nah I rode the offroad spec one, the Terra, the road spec one is the Strada.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bagging it, first adv bike I have ridden, so I am certainly no expert on the matter, but compared to “enduro” spec bikes, feels like a road bike.
to be expected, but I am hoping that the DR feels more off road.June 22, 2013 at 9:34 am #243993Is it possible to do adventure with an enduro or can’t you get enough after market parts
June 22, 2013 at 9:42 am #244248most adventer riding involves a lot of road work so basicaly enduro bikes suck at it if you want to enjoy it enduro bikes are crap on the road uncomfertable and slow just my opionion but there are other options out there.like the huskey wonderwhat the husky scoty rides would go different model
June 22, 2013 at 9:55 am #244250Thought as much
I haven’t ridden one yet -
