Yeah Mal hard choice youve got to live with for a while.
You sound like your getting itchy feet.

Is the 09 sherco a major upgrade? Will have to look online. I like the look of the yellow and black one the mags did the tests on a while back.

I have never owned a Husky, but have ridden quite a few over the years, not a single dog among them, still recall Honest Muz’s (Murray Watts) gold medal at the Ibiza ISDE on the WR125 in the 200cc class.

My next bike will likely be a Husky, i want to live with one before I’m too old to appreciate it, at this stage prob the WR300, so I say do it Mal, do it.

yes well now after googling it i know what you current ride is:blush:

can i ask why you are considering a change?
not too sure really. I like the look of the huskys and if they had FI in 07 I probably would have bought one then.

    the 5.1 looks the goods!
Yes I know. There lies the delema.

do you have mods? pipe etc? are they available ?
Barret make a pipe for it but I think it justs makes it louder and I think I could get the mapping updated if I take it to the importer. But I have enough power for the bush, would like some more for the motard side though.

just a thought that a few mods would be cheaper if you get the gains from them.

anyway just another dimes worth  from me.

Thanks for your dimes worth XY.

with your need for more power when in motard trim.

is that commuting on the black top or motard track?

do you require it for hyw speed? maybe different gearing?

just trying to get a more rounded pic of what you want/need.

i’m in no way trying to talk you out of buying a new(er) bike just throwing options up:blush:

Hey meanace. I’m gonna get on the gotchya machine soon hopefully.

Just worried that I would concentrate more on hanging on than laughing with you in a ‘superhuman V superhero’ race and throw it all away.:(

It would be hard to beat on power I rekon.

I don’t commute much with the bike. To work (15km) and to the pub (15km) in nice weather. I have been going to track days at wakefield park and oran park with a few mates and just pulling onto the straights I would like more acceleration. Gearing would change the acceleration rate but slow top speed and I just hit the rev limiter at the end of wakefield straight now.

But i can live with that. Just thinking about something different for the bush. Would be nice if i could afford to have two or three registered bikes.

yes well a 690 tard would be nice and FUN! or for on road/track something like the aprilia 550.

and for the bush i’d like to have a go at a big bore 2T. 360+

yes i too have to ? the rego thing. as would most NSW old bull’s when considering what bike to go to.

    i’ve got it! a Maico 700:woohoo:

I’m thinking about updating the Sherco to a Husky 510. Any thoughts on the Huskys?

The Sherco is still a great bike, but it has a few Kms on it now and I’m in the postion to be able to update. I like the huskys and they’re doing good deals on them.

One question for all the FI tech heads is the dealer told me they take the 02 sensor off the exhaust and change the map setting to the race setting and not having the 02 sensor doesn’t affect the engine’s mapping. Is this correct. What would be the consequences of me leaving the 02 sensor in the exhaust – the only one I can think of is that it would vibrate/rattle to pieces.

If you leave the sensor it’ll burnout
The place for ALL this tech on the Husky is http://www.cafehusky.com Its a Yank site but they know the bikes. From what I’ve been reading recently a couple of lads are working out how to make it switchable so as to give you “3” maps. Open Loop ;Closed loop and the talk is they have a Limp mode as well. Cant tell you what the Sherco feels like but I can say the TE510 has a harder “sled” feel to it then the Crf450 (regoable model). Just curious , does the 09 get the “racekit” with it..aka the last run which got the Titanium pipe and a few “hot bits”? The Husky OZ site has some go harder parts they’re marketing now..and they’re backing their product as well. best ofluck wit h whatever you choose Mal.

just been thru this thread, i own an 08 te450, only shit its given me is with the crap speedo, which they have fixed with a neat little item for new models, ala ktm, i too had fork seal troubles and agree the forks needed revalving, i had mine set up by a guy at batemans bay, dunno shop name,, sorry , never looked back since, went one tooth smaller on front, now 13/47, lowered forks a tad, put bigger tank on it from http://www.motosportz.com coz was only getting 80kms before downhill stalls due to fuel pump being at rear of tank, if i had my time again i’d go for the 310, or a god forbid, ktm, having ridden a 450ktm, seating is much lower, ergo’s are better, motor not as revvy, but you could live with that.
then again superunit on his drz400 keeps upto and passed me and that lounge chair of a seat is a godsend after 8hrs in the saddle…

I rode a ’08’ 510 on the road as a demo and found it to be suited better to a taller person. The bars felt a bit too far forward for me and the seat is higher. That said, the thing really hauls arse when asked, there is definitley no shortage of power, it would tear the head off of my KTM 450.

I never got to ride it offroad so canb’t comment on suspension. The bike does feel nice and slim and seemed to turn in easy which maybe because of the high increased tip weight over lower bikes.

For what it’s worth I think they are a great bike and if I wasn’t so keen on the Berg the Husky would be my next choice. Just because you don’t see too many of them around doesn’t mean much……

btw i bt mine from motorini, warning avoid them like the plague, stepahn at r&d is my preffered choice, in my opinion and from my experience motorini are to be avoided at all cost

Good info there Vman thanks heaps. Will keep looking into them. 80 kms from a tank isn’t much. Does the bigger make it much wider/uncomfortable to ride?

    #138974

    sorry for the late reply
no the tank isnt a prop to ride with, but i dropped mine a few times and it cracked on one recent ride (thank f@ck for a roll of need it) they form them to mimic the shrouds, if i had my time again i’d try to fit an extra few ltrs in the original by scavenging a f@cked one and get a plastic welder to add to the top side of the original tank, having searched high and low i cant see any other options, thats in part why i’d next go a ktm of even a bloody generic yammy, heaps of after mkt bit avail for both models, or even shoehorn my oh so lovely motor into a ktm frame if time permitted. (dreaming a bit here)

Vman and Mal, The Husky and Gasgas share the same forks 45mm Marzocchi shivers. They have a problem with the plushness of the unit and they are also to softly sprung for us more Portly fella’s (theres that word again) and need to have heavier springs fitted. Terry Hay also does a machining job on the stanchions to help with the plushness and a revalve. I had my Gasser done and hope to test out the work he’s done this weekend .
