Dusty,Hastings valley MCC is a well run show with over 600 members. It is like any other club though,it has it’s core group of workers that the rest benefit from, it was a great effort by those who set up the track for the day.

Here are some more pics that didn’t make the report

Well Guys here is a report from my side of the fence

My Day started as per normal around the 4.30am mark when I got up and got ready for the show, I am always fully prepped for race days the night before and all that needs is get up and get liquids out of the fridge and go,
I arrived at the circuit at 5.45, opened up as per normal and set my boys pit tent and spectate tent up and started to gear up all the behind the scenes stuff that is needed for the day to start.

The first people started to arrive by 6.15 and by 6.30 I entered into the beginning of the busy time for me, I had to get all the juniors through scrutineering and be ready for riders brief by 7.30 , ready to race by 8.00, I was worried from the time I got out of the car first up, the heat then was already starting, and I knew that dehydration would be a real concern.

I finished the deal and the juniors had gone out for their sighting lap, I went through the mental checklist and made sure all the supplies and tools were in my camel back, I am a voluntary roving mechanic for many junior riders, it upsets me to see them not compete due to silly mechanical mishaps. We had a little hold up at the start and it turns out it was Puddles little man that was having dramas, he came back from the sighting lap and decided that this was not his day to race, no matter what we said he would not answer….its all cool Justyn you will play another day Mate, good on you for even doing the sighting lap, I am sure you would have got podium yesterday, but you will get a go another day.

Once the racing starts with my boys I go into a time warp and nothing else matters or gets my attention, I watched my youngest get an ordinary start and by the third turn he was buffeted back several spots, I could read the body language and when he went into the bush for the first time he was an angry boy pushing the ones in front of him, I was very worried about that first leg of the first lap, I was expecting him to fall off trying too hard. He surprised me by coming out with the the faster guys and was pacing them, by the second lap he came on song and led them from there on in to the finish flag, taking another victory, Well done little Man.

Next up was my older boy and on his le-mans start I had the kicker out ready for him to go and when he reached his leg up to kick it, he accidentally pushed the thing back in, and kicked thin air, this comedy of error was repeated 3 times until I gave up and let him do it, by the time he got it going he was last into the corner, he played catch up for three laps and and finally got up with the leaders only to hit a tree and go down , he got back up and going but by the time race pace was happening he had run out of time, he ended up just outside podium, but still had a good day.

The seniors were up next and I went over to the area where the riders were assembled and this was the first time of the day that I saw Moto and the other Old Bulls, I jumped on the chance to give him a last minute tease and tell him he was a wuss-bag, it was at this stage that I saw him with total panic in his eyes, i asked him about his fuel and fluids and decided to take over as Tyne was in Thongs and could not be there for him, He went out for his sighting lap and he looked real gum-by on the bike, he was all stiff and disjointed, oh dear what a day I thought.

When he came back after his sighting lap, I gave him a last minute brief about where I was standing because I have been kicked several times and motorbike boots hurt you, I looked up and Moto was standing there with a real casual stance, looked around at the others and then went into this real cool grouchy “I am ready to race” look. The countdown began and when the green flag dropped Moto was out of there and on his bike in a flash, and bugger me he got the holeshot, I started to whoop and Holler, looked up and see the other Old Bulls doing the same, at this moment I wished that I had a camera, not to long and Mick was next up,

Now here was the exact opposite to Moto, he even stated “watch me walk to my Bike”, which he did!!!! I think all he needed to do was have a durrie before he set off and the picture would be complete. His big pig did not start first up, but he was not in a hurry anyway. I was waiting for the Big pig to flame out and then she roared and Mick was trundling away for a nice Sunday ride.

The day started to blur for me and I was suffering from heat stroke, I was going to go to wet down my hair and went to the shower block and got into the shower fully dressed, I completely doused myself (I did this 3 times during the day) and 15 mins later was dry….it was hot!!!!

I then started to worry about Moto and all the other Bulls, I made sure the shower was operational and then went about keeping an eye on heat stoke signs, Moto would not stop when I indicated him to do so I decided to force him next lap, which I did do, he looked rooted and was a little incoherent, I poured 1 liter of water down his back and got barely a whisper from him, I almost talked him into going in for a proper hosing down until he heard that the race was almost over because they cut it short, he would not have a bar of that stopping, he just pulled back out onto the track, damm the pommy has guts.

The end of the day was close and I knew moto had podium if he could just finish, he finally came in and just sat for a bit, he had done it, The look on his face when they called him out for 2nd place was a treasure, all was good, the other Bulls all Made us proud and I cant wait for the next event, We all should have a concerted effort at showing the young Pups like Dildoe or whatever his name is what real riding spirit is like, I know that I will get curry from TB, but I dont care, My day finished when I had cleaned toilets out and locked the gates at 7.00 pm.

    A Final words for all,

Thanks for the great Day, I really enjoyed watching you guys achieve, and I am happy for you all and your results, Puddles you should be proud of your princess, she did well.
Moose, next time make sure Mick does the last lap, not you doing both his and yours
Kram , Keeping those air filters clean really helps Mate, I will come over and help you check cleanliness any time
Mick…get an open face helmet just for the starts, so you can have a durrie hanging out your gob
TB How about showing up Next time :P :P :P :P
Sam and Lachlan , my two young Bulls, Good on you boys, You make your Dad proud

All the others I did not mention I am sorry, you all do us proud just being there,

Moto you mole bag you still suck

Too much for me to remember, but the beers and the bench racing after the event is always a highlight

A big thanks to Rat for helping my neighbour’s young bloke. The young fella was having his first race and before he could get his bike through scrutineering it fell over braking his clutch lever. Rat came to the rescue with a spare and he had a great day ;)

Another big well done to Rat and the helpers too! Great reports guys I’m psyched to get to my first race. I used to water ski race as a younger fella and I remember the awesome nerves before the race and even puked a couple of times! Can’t wait to relive those moments as an adult though someone please remind me to warn whoever holds my bike :p

Welcome to OBT Jason, You and Kram did well on the weekend!! 4th in the over 35’s is a great result at the HVMCC as it is one of the most hotly contested classes.
