Shane, there is probably 5-6 ways of attacking this problem, and many have already been suggested,I will throw my 2 bobs in, give the outside of the nut a go with some rust buster or penetrine, let it soak the longer the better, apply some Gentle heat to the cases with a hot air gun or propane torch, remember Gentle heat, next get a can of quick freeze (bunnings, auto one)spray the nut. Then use a rattle gun with a metrinch socket. That will get the bastard off;) option two, same as above but use a cold chisel, option 3 you can use a plumbers mate which is like a pipe vice grip with an extended handle.option 4 if it will fit in you could try a stud remover. Option 5 leave it alone and just turn your bike upside down and let it drain from the filler:woohoo:

option 6 wait for TB with his special tools;)

    Shane ,
    heres my 2 cents worth.;)
Go to Bunnings & buy the IRWEN Easy out sockets. There are worth about $50 for a set of 6. They work like a spiral so the harder you try to lossen the bolt the tighter it grips.Worked wonders. B). Good Luck.

    Ha! Paydirts!

I had another look around the shed and found a 6 sided socket…but as I might have let slip, the nut was way beyond that sort of thing. I should really have looked harder in the first place before I buggered it completely.

The chisel wouldn’t work, not enough room in beside the frame rails, so I grabbed an old screwdriver (my pop just rolled in his grave!) but that wouldn’t budge it either.

So I think, in for a penny, and with a LITTLE file, make two flat sides to fit a 13 mm OE spanner. (If this doesn’t worked I’m all for emptying it by upturning the thing!)

    Thank Christ that worked :woohoo:

Now, I need a new alloy sump plug. These things look like they’re spun, can anyone recommend a turner in Penrith? Luckily the filler is (or was) exactly the same dimensions!!!

    How’s this?

$41 for a sump plug, shipped to my door direct from Italy.

    $41!!!! It’s a sump plug!

Hopefully the bloke in NZ can do a better price?

I’m about to email CrossCountry Action (again, poor buggers) to see if they still have any…

    Ahhh Euro bikes:unsure:

    hey Shane,

can you take the old plug to a nut and bolt shop and get something in the same thread and length?

it’d be metric i guess. cant be that hard to get one.??? but then it might not be.

    just a thought.

did i read in one of your posts that the filler is the same thread? or am i dreaming again:blush:
