Nup. It’s alloy and it has to hold a little metal pre-filter in place. I’d have to take one to a fitter and have them made.
Yeah you did hear correctly. Both the oil filler and sum plug are the same part, go figure! Italians!
One will pop up soon enough, just not for 40 bucks hopefully!
May 26, 2009 at 9:34 am #134685would a steel bolt the same tread size and pitch and of the same length do the same job?
dose the drain plug have any special recess on the filter side?
i’m guessing it’s alloy only to save weight? bugger all but 10g here and there adds up i suppose.
have you tried to see if a normal bolt will fit the filler thread, just to see if anything else will fit?
just a thought to ( TRY) and help.
May 26, 2009 at 10:28 am #136538Yeah champ it’s recessed on the backside for a filter.
I’m guessing it’s alloy because the case is also alloy. An iron plug will cause something bad to happen the name of which escapes my mind at the moment…(mmmm beers….)May 26, 2009 at 10:43 am #134686steel plug in alloy will only cause problems if you cross thread it.
the only thing i can think is if you use an ordinary bolt you will need to use a copper washer to give a proper seal.
if you like i’ll PM you my post address, send the old one to me and i’ll have a crack at fixing it.
if that fails making a new one.
May 26, 2009 at 10:46 am #136571Thanks mate.
We’ll see how the part hunting goes first;)
The challenge in owning these things is the finding of parts! You’d be surprised how many husky and KTM parts I have had to modify and fit! :ohmy:Fingers crossed,,, shhhh! I’m hunting parts again!

May 26, 2009 at 11:30 am #136600Yeah your right XY, in that environment it will be fine, 90% of deisel sumps are that combo and no dramas

May 26, 2009 at 11:30 am #136601all the bikes i have had used steel bolts gears etc dont no why you need a alloy sump plug.

+ all the alloy heads with steel bolts holding everything on.
all i can say Rocket on the alloy plug, “‘cos they can”.
May 26, 2009 at 11:38 am #136603Yep the gasser is steel as well, but the action is called Galvanic corrossion, or the misnomer “electrolisis” Fugged if I know:dry: Moto:dry:

May 27, 2009 at 9:06 am #136605I knew it was baad mmmkay?
Thankfully the nice people at Cross Country Action have sent me a PDF file of all their Vor parts stock. I know they’re not sponsors here but props to them for that!
Now to get my shopping list together.
Oi TB! $16 odd bucks for the plug from CCA! That’s, what 30 odd bucks for rumbos!!!!:woohoo:
May 27, 2009 at 9:29 am #134687good to hear Shane!
you could buy from them and stick stuff on fleabay and make a few$:woohoo: excluding OBT’ers of course!
i’m chasing an engine mount for a 91 v8, none in the country for the seller of my choice. he is
$30-80 cheaper in price:angry:but have to shell out a few extra $ to get it quickly.

Quote:I changed my oil yesterday and had a “moment” tightening it back up as it seemed to get tight and then too easy and I thought I’d stripped it! I backed it out cleaned the thread and then gently tightened it again without drama but I did notice a few goosebumps and had to wipe the sweaty palms! It turns out that I did strip the thread. After the ride on the weekend I noticed that there was a little oil leaking and thought I hadn’t tightened it enough but it wasn’t the case. I was very cautious so I think maybe it was damaged previously. Either way I think I’m going to have to get myself a torque wrench because I’ll be too paranoid now.
If anyone would like to recommend one it’d be appreciated otherwise I’ll just take a look around.
