My girlfriend has been wanting to get into bikes for a while now, and she’s finally decided to bite the bullet and get a drit bike (dirty girl) as they’re more robust if its dropped and they’re more fun. She’s only about 5’1″ so we need something to suit. What are suggestions on what she could consider?
Would a CT110 with nobby tires be much chop off road? Ideally she wants to spend $2000 tops incase she doesn’t keep going with it, so whats a good beginner for a girl.April 19, 2013 at 6:44 pm #240031Do you need rego on it? I use a CRF150F to do all my cattle work, electric start, quiet, low first gear, low seat height, light enough to pull out of the bog and an ideal bike to learn on. She may be better to earn her strips on something like this then move up.
April 19, 2013 at 10:13 pm #240046A CT110 is not even a motor bike.
I had one to ride to work for a while, handled dirt road OK but thats as far as I ever took it.
Some fella’s get great satifaction out of riding them ADV style. To be honest I think they are kidding. :S
As Dickie said, if no rego needed the CRF150f would be the go
I think if rego is needed maybe a TTR230, also has electric start and rego
Cheers
MurphApril 20, 2013 at 5:02 am #240032thanks fellas but yeah rego is the go as we live in town and dont really know anyone with property, besides she wants to tag along on some rides with me and maybe a sedate OBT ride once she’s got the hang of it was looking at something like a Sherpa or a TTR or a CRF230 maybe or even a XR125 when they come out.
April 20, 2013 at 5:46 am #240059Hey BW
It is great showing the wife bueatiful places out in the bush but from experience, BE PATIENT.
Cheers
MurphApril 20, 2013 at 5:49 am #240063As mentioned above, i believe a TTR230 would be perfect,ticks all the boxes.
Good to see her showing an interest.

April 20, 2013 at 6:23 am #240065As Marty said a Yamaha TTR230 would be ideal.
Just make sure you get the rego’d one as you can get the non- adr’d ones cheaper. This may stretch the 2k budget. My kids have one and they like it. They range from 12 to 17yrs old and the seat height is good as well.
Electric start works well, and there is no kick starter as back up.April 20, 2013 at 8:54 am #240060Bulls Wool wrote:thanks fellas but yeah rego is the go as we live in town and dont really know anyone with propertyAn hours drive away, 1600ac of fun here.
April 22, 2013 at 2:02 am #240033Thanks Dickie, might take you up on that one day? Seems rego’d bikes relatively new (light weight) are few and far between for her budget.
1600 ac ??? OBT ride “Dickie’s Day Out” planned yet? :woohoo: :woohoo:
April 22, 2013 at 3:08 am #240034Boys you need some more info here….
5 ‘1 is she small framed or more athletic?
If you don’t mind me asking how old is she?? I’m 32 but after 4hrs on a dirt bike a feel like I’m 80! But if she is nice and young (anything younger than me
her body could probably take a bit more punishment so you could think of other bikes?
Do you want something that is soft and comfy so she can sit down for most of the ride?
Unless you are an amazingly wonderful boyfriend she is going to have to pick it up herself. So put your bike on the ground and make her pick it up by herself then wait for the feedback
What ever you pick she needs to be able to put her foot flat on the ground with dirt boots on. Even if that means lowering and cutting into the seat.
We ladies like to be able to feel out feet firmly on the ground when we stop.
Oh and remind her that she has to swing her leg over the bike with another 1.5 kg on her foot.there MUST be an electric start! Unless of course you want to start it for her every time :pinch:
$2K?? How much do you love her?? throw in some extra cash buddy.
Very excited to hear that there might be another dirty chic hitting the trails soon. Alyssa has a nice ‘girls loop’ up at cessnock that we would be more than happy to take her on.
oh and there are few extra secret girls tips we can give her too lol.April 22, 2013 at 3:10 am #240064Murph the surf wrote:Hey BW

Murphamen to that! Will be a great opportunity for you to show your tender caring side. She will need it in the beginning.

.
1. 5’1″ and athletic
2. 22 Y.O. :woohoo:
3. She is a girl so of course a soft seat if preferable
4. she’d tear me a new one if I tried to pick up her bike after a spill 😆She’s strong but she wouldn’t be able to pick up an XR400 I shouldn’t think. Hence the smaller bike ideas.
April 22, 2013 at 11:16 am #240212TTR230 or CRF230 are some good options. As for the 2K, you might be hard pressed to find something suitable in that range.
Second hand bikes seem to hold there value reasonably well so maybe spend a bit more and if it doesn’t work out you just sell the bike and gear to hopefully get most of your money back.
April 22, 2013 at 11:41 am #240035Ok i know i am going against the tide here  …. but just another view to note ……
I got my first bike in October last year ….. everyone told me to get a “girls” bike blah blah ….. After a lot of stressing about i went screw it and got a ktm 350excf … I love it :woohoo: and am SO glad i didnt get some of the bikes people suggested. If you think she might love it maybe it is worthwhile getting her something she wont outgrow. I am a bit taller than her but my neice is her height and got the 250 and then got a lowering link and she loves it.
April 22, 2013 at 3:06 pm #240036My GF is the same height and loves her XT250 (earlier models referred to as a XT225). They are all 223cc.
Same engine as a TTR 230 but the seat is a bit more comfortable if doing longer rides.
They are are near bulletproof we had a late 90’s model with 30,000km on it and never had been apart…..
Green slip is slightly cheaper than a 250 too.
The one below is her 2003 model
