Right from what you say about her I agree with Rach. Think of what you would buy a similarly sized bloke and buy that!
As she is young (bless her youthful cotten socks  ) and I’m assuming her hips haven’t had the stress of multiple child births , why not get a two stroke? you might find something for 2k?
She sounds like a firecracker and should take to it no problems
. What sort of riding do you do? She is going to get the shits if her bike can’t handle the stuff that you do so think about that.
Plus I’m sure you guys have noticed that ladies bottoms tend to come with a bit more ‘padding’ so seats that boys find hard and uncomfortable aren’t that bad to us…….or maybe thats just my fat arse
April 23, 2013 at 11:45 am #240038Another girls opinion…….
I hadnt ridden, only a few squirts as a young girl,
And my partner and i did a little research on bikes before i decided to go browsing for one,
Went to local dealer asked for there opinions, they had the crf, ttr and xt.
They reccommended the xt 250 and i couldnt of been happier, i do agree that if she is dedicated it wont matter what bike she gets, she’ll be happy just hitting the trails.
Last year i upgraded to the wr 250, got a fair price on trade in and extremely happy with the wr.
Just thought progression for myself was better than jumping in the deep end.
But height, weight, electric start and of course the look and colour of bike are very important.
Like previously said, patience is important plus let her tackle things like knarly hills when she is ready, and a few training sessions of the basics to start her off is the go
And just get her out there and have fun!!!
Get her to message me if she is keen for a ride, heaps up this way, from grade 1-5April 23, 2013 at 12:29 pm #240039Hi Bulls Wool,
Not sure if you and your girl are going to the birthday weekend.
If you are I can bring an XR250 that she is more than welcome to have a go on.
My +1 for the weekend has a TTR 250 and she would be welcome to have a go on that as well.
nothing worse than parting with your coin and not being real sure if your gonna like it or not.April 25, 2013 at 10:02 pm #240040I might have to take back what I said about the 150.
The old girl thinks its crap.
April 25, 2013 at 10:17 pm #240422Hey Dickie, thats the exact reason bikes don’t come with a reverse gear.
We have all been there at some stage.
Cheers
MurphApril 27, 2013 at 4:52 am #240041Thanks for input y’all, big help! Looks like we’ll go with an XT or TTR (one that has had the e-start problem rectified) initially to get her feet dirty then we’ll see what she likes from there. Like it has been said we’ll start in paddock and dirt roads then fire tracks and see where she wants to go from there either singletrack/firetrack/adv :S or freestyle mx 👿
She may well need or want a more capable machine but not for a while yet. Thanks for the offer Trailrider I’ll run it by her, plus if she does decide to come along to the B-day ride i wont be using up any leave passes
B.W.
April 27, 2013 at 11:21 am #240042Unless she has a super ballsy personality and doesnt mind getting her body knocked around, then sure get a blokes equivalent bike.
If she is a little more “girly” then a crf230 or xt250 would be best due to the low seat height, she will get confidence up quicker, (ive owned both). The crf is a much hardier bike suited to being dropped. The ttr230 will be way too tall for her without a lowering link for learning to ride on. I think your main issue is your budget.
April 29, 2013 at 4:28 am #240423lol ! I did exactly the same thing about a month ago (threw the bike down and stormed away). Don’t worry its a woman thing.
Tell her she should get back on it. She’ll do fine. Plus she can swear at it and it will never answer backJune 1, 2013 at 10:15 am #240043About 4 weeks ago now we picked up this little gem for less than $1400 unreg.
’00 model TTR250 with about 4900km on the dial, and what looked like original chain and sprockets , there was at some stage probably a rodent living in the air box had a very nasty looking front guard all faded cracked from another Yam. On the plus side I spoke to the Yam dealer in town, they’d serviced it a few months before and said there was nothing horrific about it, has a B&B bash plate and an anodized rear rim with relatively fresh rubber. New chain and sprocket set for about $180 New front guard at the Kempsey swap meet for $5 :woohoo:
Which put the total price for the bike as is to about $1500.So a couple more hours practice maybe carve the seat foam a little and then do all the rego crap and she’ll be showing me up in no time
Thanks again to all who chipped in $0.02
June 2, 2013 at 12:54 am #240044wow great find! She’ll love the ttr. Oh and tip on cutting out the seat foam. What is comfortable for a lady is not so comfortable for a guy so don’t worry if you think the seat will kill her but she says its fine
Will she be coming to the birthday bash?
