I am looking at changing my ignition from the key to a push button.I was told it would be easy to do it myself so i had a look. The main power lead will just plug straight in but there is also leads attached for the indicator LCD.Should i just tape those up with electrical tape?

I looked at doing that on my KLX250 to make room for an electronic speedo and to fit a lighter aftermarket headlight. Seems there is some sort of diode or resistor or some bloody thing in the ignition barrel. Got too complicated so I gave the idea away.

As Eagle said, a competent electrician should sort it out for you.

sorry mate, ive been busy RIDING, and recovering from the stockmans, Tdriver is right, i think the extra wires are to have the indicators on only when the ignition is on. get onto Tdriver (Damo) and get him to show you if your still worried mate. he is a top bloke and hates a beer too ;)

why do you wanna do that mod anyway?? for weight ??

Nah not worried about the weight its more for convenience,im starting to get paranoid about driving 3 hours for a ride and forgetting the key to my bike(you should know how it feels to be in the middle of nowhere with no key :woohoo: ).The mod button came in the spares kit with my bike so its not costing me anything.

I have given up trying to do this myself, the last straw was finding that the heated handgips have been wired into the ignition lead.its starting to get a bit much for me so i will get it done at the next service.
