hey guys im after a gps for avd riding what is the best one i can get and what are you guys useing im thinking gavman at this point but what one and where do i get the mounts ??
November 1, 2012 at 8:41 am #231790Think you mean NAVMAN not GAVMAN
But the GARMIN models are best..Nuvii models that are bike specific, waterproof & dustproof etc
Also have bluetooth for helmet headsetsMany varying prices and mapping options.
TB has a few different models of GPS, tried & tested and he will chime in with some advice form his experiencesHe is prabably busy packing his bike & gear for tomorrows ride though ,,,,
Do your research, buy the best you can afford that suits your needs mate, they are an expensive outlay but worth it for sure (thats why I have an old Garmin unit & a cheapo ALDI unit)  :cheer:
November 1, 2012 at 8:45 am #231791Hey Fuchsy,
Mate I just recently got a Garmin 62s and are doing my 1st Navigation ride on the weekend. I will let you know how it goes. You can buy the mounts from Advenure Moto for these. There are many type and alot of opinions out there and I am sure you will here alot more about this to make your choice.
Cheers,

November 5, 2012 at 11:07 am #231814Hi Fuchsy,
I own a Garmin 660 zumo which I have had lots of problems with, i just find it a frustrating unit to use and i have had lots of technical issues? On the weekend I borrowed TBs 60CSx and I can now highly recommend this. It’s easy to use, no fuss and just a good unit. I will by buying one after using it.
Hope this helps.

November 5, 2012 at 8:36 pm #231792Hey Fuchsy, I have the Garmin 60 and also a Garmin Montana, they are both good units.
IMO the 60 is a good all rounder and very solid bit of kit for motorbikes and have all types of mounts available.November 6, 2012 at 11:05 am #231793Giday Fuchsy . I have a garmin montana 650t which im slowly coming to terms with , its been a bit frustrating
but im not the sharpest with technoligy. Seems to be a good unit. Only other gps ive used is an old nuvi 310.bones
November 7, 2012 at 10:04 am #231794thanks for all the input guys i think ill get the one tb is useing thanks again:)
November 14, 2012 at 10:06 am #232141Fuchsy, if you have room behind your screen go the garmin Montana 650t with the powered rugged mount – ducks nuts of adv gps units.
If you are after something smaller, go the garmin 62s. If you buy the 62s and want cheap garmin topo go to flea bay.
If need advise on gps stuff pm me and I will help you out.
Cheers, Dave.
November 14, 2012 at 11:32 am #232488I know TB uses a Garmin 60CSX but a mate of mine has a 60CX hardly used that he wants to unload. Is it a good unit and whats the difference between these two?

Yeah I use and recommend Garmin 60CSX for peeps learning GPSs and for experts alike. I just purchased another 60CSX for $152 bucks and am chasing another for a friend. They are cheap, easy to use, bullet proof and better IMO than its later brother the 62 which I also own and am happy to sell you. For ease of loading operation etc get a 60CSX.
As written elsewhere I now have a 62, 3 x 60CSX (for loan), Zumo 220 and a Zumo 550 (and access to a 660) for pre loaded tracks its a 60CSX all day. I also recommend base camp (free download) for your PC and shonky maps on PC and the SD card in the GPS. For extra but not needed for everybody Aus tracks 3 is good and the extra money subscription for google earth isnt worth the time, effort or money. When route planning paper maps are worth everything as well (good quaility maps, not topo everytime) I use paper, local knowlege, Aus topo, 2 computers and many hrs
I will do some videos on how to load and down load your GPSs soon for those asking

TBI have $152 right here. Who do I give it to to get one of those TB? It’s my birthday soon I need one. I can’t see many listings for them on the interweb.
November 26, 2012 at 3:16 am #232536This thread is drying up. 60CSX is too old to buy new.
Lefty you were going to let us know how the 62s goes?
My birthday has come and gone and Christmas is nearly here. I’d like to grab one soon or at least know what to buy.November 26, 2012 at 12:06 pm #232878I’ve um’d and ah’d for ages over this. Anyway you can pick up a 62S at Dick Smith for around $399 when its on sale. Although I just picked up a near new 60CSX for $190 delivered so I’m going to give that a go as TB seems to be a big fan and guys on other sites still give it a big wrap over the current 62S.
November 27, 2012 at 10:27 am #232907Thanks iOR. I’m getting one of those 62s units, stuff it.
