Yep sorry Eags. I thought there might be some others from here bidding.
I punched in what I was prepared to pay 8sec before it ended and came out on top. A fair price I thought. The seller has 0 eBay history which did bother me, alot.

Rocket I’ll be carrying it in my backpack on all rides. My memory is crap so it will do the work for me hopefully. Be good to use if I get lost and need to get back to the car. Have to learn how to use the sucker first.

    Hey D-Rally,
I`m guesing you grabbed a 62s from Ryda and have no software other than the basemap ?

Shonky Maps will work fine for a fair bit off offroad applications. It is free and made for Garmin compatability.
Garmin Basemap is also free and is similar to Shonky but a tad easire to plan routes I think , TB will be able to answer that, he uses both at times B)

Let us now how you get on,, I am interested in the 62s myself and keen to see how you guys go on the ADV ride with them as opposed to the 60csx`s ;)

    Cheers

62 is better 60 is easier to learn and use

I use basecamp on the computer as the program, then the maps I use in that program are either OZ topo V3 or V4, Shonky, Tracks4Aus and one other that I can’t remember.

All of my rides I do as tracks for hand held’s remembering that a 60 holds 20 tracks and no more than 500 waypoints per track a 62s more. Then using a program I convert the tracks to routes for the Zumo style GPS, but there is a problem off course you need normally less than 200 waypoints a route and you can only import so many routes. Then they need to be converted to off road once in the Zumo because it will try and re navigate to what it thinks etc. It’s not a 5 min thing this mapping

So say you save a ride, depending on your setting you may have 6000 waypoints for a leg, you can’t load that into someone’s GPS remember it needs to be less than 500, so if you divide the tracks up that’s 12 tracks out of your 20 for the 60 if that’s what your using (remembering when you are making a route for 30 people you need to accommodate everybody) if it’s a two day you only have 8 tracks left and that wont be enough. Imagine getting 12 days on one GPS ! So you have to reduce the ways points per track to get more tracks but not lose the accuracy of the route

Oh back to the GPSs and software sorry, on my 2 60s one has shonky, one has tracks for Aus and the 62 I use either Garmin Oztopo or OzTopo V3. Sometimes on those smaller screen GPSs the simpler the maps are the better because when zoomed in the contour lines make it to busy. If you are following a route like one of my nav rides you don’t need every contour line and goat track anyway making the screen to busy

I will run a day school for want of a better word on all this one day

    It will be great,,,
In any case if you get lost on the route,,,,, just pull up & wait till someone else comes along (providing you are not too far off route)

And check their bearing or follow

We did plenty of that on the last 2 dayer, and it was great fun B)

    See you in Mittagong

Wont be smashed Eagle, never get smashed under those circumstances when its such a big day the next day ask Kram he always gives me a hard time cause I am early to bed B) . As far as GPS school goes Q2 it will be, thats easy but where to hold it to get a maximum number of peeps thats the question ;) The GPS school we will be able to load software, and if people bring their GPSs, laptops or PCs depending what they have I can teach people how to load routes and update their computer software.
