With the boy’s heading up from Sydney shortly, we thought we best find some trails to equal or better last visit.
So some new single trail with some hills was required,………….here is one hill we found
This hill busted Tripper630 though, he stalled the XR half way up and anyone that has ever ridden an XR600 will know if you stall one on a hill ,it is back to the bottom and kick and kick until you get her started.
Tripper got it to go again and made it to the top after about 150 failed kicks. The hill is about 1km long and we could hear him swearing from the top !!!
One day I will actually show him how to find TDC.He He
Any pussy can get a motocrosser to the top of a hill but there is a degree of perverted satisfaction from actually getting a XR600 to the top of a snotty hill, as you can see from the satisfaction written all over Chris’ face……….The thing with XR600’s is that you can see your line, you can pick your line,
you can steer the XR in the direction of the chosen line and at the last minute the XR will pick it’s own line and that is usually via the biggest rut,or over the biggest rock or root in the trail. The challenge is to stay attached to the bike while it bucks and kicks and snorts it’s way up the hill!!!
Anyhow once Tripper got to the top we had no more dramas for a while until I decided to see what was down a track we hadn’t done before. It started out as a normal fire trail that petered out into a nice little single trail.
Trouble was, it petered out into a barely distinguishable trail up a hill covered in reeds of some sort, growing in the stickiest red clay imaginable and in no time my knobbies had filled up with shitty clay and my back tyre was resembling a racing slick.
The old XR broke traction half way up and that was me bogged to the balls, so after 5 minutes of revving and swearing, I conceded defeat and we turned around , beaten by the hill.
To Chris’ credit he made it another 30 meters up the hill further than me after his XR picked a better line than mine even with a knobbie that is pretty well stuffed. The ride had no more trying moments from there on and the conditions were great, here is a pic of a nice creek crossing we have found for when the Sydney lads come up.
Just to finish the ride off nicely we came home via the rutt trail, which was as much fun as always,
Ant impessed us all and came down the rutt twice as fast as anyone else has ever done it and made it look easy. (He wasn’t on an XR though).
Well you Sydney guys, I reakon we have a nice little 100k + loop for your next visit.
Ant and a mate are going out again today to see what else he can find, my kids are racing motocross so that’s where I will be today.July 13, 2008 at 8:55 am #105479Mick, im getiing excited about another ride up there. Hopefully i can make it up without too many yelps of agony from my poor wallet!! i hand over the remaining $5500 for the wr tomorrow, might need to sell some other toys so i can afford to put fuel in the thing!! July 25, 2008 at 9:51 am #105484hey mick are you riding this week end?? hows the rain been up there LOTS??
July 25, 2008 at 10:24 am #105480Man I would love to be out there this weekend, I like mud!!!! Yeah, it has been raining here for two days, so the bush will be nice and wet.
However the NSW MX championships are here at the track this weekend. Me and Moose have put our hands up to be flag marshalls, so we are watching, not riding. I saw the track and it is a quagmire, should make for some interesting racing.July 25, 2008 at 12:02 pm #105857yeah that will be fun,, but then you and moose will have a laugh anyways
July 25, 2008 at 1:07 pm #105481Pretty good ride that Ant took me on Mick.
Your brother rides that 530 well. Not sure if he was in control sometimes though?
Will have to organise a night trail ride with you. They do one down in Cessnock every year. Great social get together, also great fun riding trail pace at night.July 25, 2008 at 7:32 pm #105482Hey Fatktm!!! I was wondering when you would stick your fat head in and start giving lip. Yeah I have had one bash at trails in the dark. I had an over the bars incident and crashed the XR and it stalled, so the light went out straight away and talk about dark, if the XR wasn’t hot, going tink tink tink I would have had trouble finding it in the scrub with out a white cane and a labrador.
It was fun though.
If you thought Ant was outa control a bit of the time, wait till you see Tripper on the Cat XR!!!!July 26, 2008 at 1:27 am #105866I would be up for a night trail ride, we are working on dates at the moment for a trail ride in the Watagans, we will work on a 100km loop of single trail and twin trail. Maybe we could finish with a night loop, I know going through the pines up there in the dark is always fun
July 26, 2008 at 1:28 am #105871Hey Mick what about october, keep a date for a ride up there (your way)around then eh?
