This weekend, or soon, Im gunna install the Rekluse EXP clutch in my bike.

Has anyone done a Rekluse install before ? Tips, tricks, pros, cons ?

Its just the Trailrider clutch which doesnt include the basket or ball bearings, just a friction plate and some springs.

    Hey Riggs
Make sure you really want a rekluse clutch
I’m not sure but I dont think you can clutch start a bike with the rekluse installed, and you will have no engine braking for those long down hill sections either.
Maybe Mal 5.1 can confirm this

I can’t help you with the install on the EXP Riggs. I had a Z-start Pro in my bike. chris72a has the EXP I think.

The install shouldn’t be to hard. The instructions are usually very good and just take your time and take heaps of photos as you remove the standard clutch and install the rekluse.

Murphs right you can’t clutch start your bike now. Although some did tell me that if tow the bike at around 60km/h + then the clutch drag will turn the motor over. I would have tested this this theory but I had removed my clutch at the time.

You will have engine braking. Just be mindful that every time you lock back wheel the clutch disengages. You then have to give the engine a small rev to lock it back in. That was on the Z-start pro, the EXP may be different.

    Riggs, Mal5.1, Chris72a,

What are your impressions of the recluse system ??

Riggs I know you haven’t used yours yet but let us know what you think when you do ;)

They are an awsome bit of gear very well engineered but they do have a few issues.

If you stall on a hill, you havnt got your gears to hold you there and you can free wheel back down.
you cant bump start your bike, even if you can get it up to 100kays, the engine has to be turning to engage the centrifigal balls.
If you park your bike on a steep hill or driveway your bike has a fair chance of rolling and then crashing, I made up a handbrake out of an inner tube.

I would buy another one in a heart beat, great in the mud

I thought they made it impossible to stall. I did read on their site that in the event of an emergency the exp can be configured to bump start but I presume that means removing the side cover.

Love it did get caught with the stopping and having no gears to stop you rolling back and putting it on the stand on a slight hill and watching it fall over but other than that I LOVE IT, the engine braking is pretty much the same, I still use the clutch cause I’m so used to it although now I don’t have too, hill climbing was a little easier, less stalling although when I did stall I discovered quickly that you need to plant your foot on the rear brake pretty quickly, front brake you’ll just slide down the hill. It did take a little time to get used to at first, the Sunday of the OB ride was the best as the saturday I had some issues with it that have since been sorted.

A worthwhile investment would be even better if I can transfer it straight to my new ride ;) ;)

    Cheers

Makes stalling harder but it is still possible to stall for what ever reason, Ie going thru a water crossing  running out of fuel  or having a off idle hiccup

They are a good thing, on my second bike with one, very handy when the going gets tough and your tired but be careful you can become lazy with gear changes and as a result more clutch slippage, if putting one on a bike with a kick starter as a backup I would not hesitate fitting one.
The bike can still stall under some conditions, quick shutting of throttle on carbie bikes, some harsh applications of rear brake and bike crashed

Have a read of this adam and riggs.

    rekluse install

There’s a few pics of the z-strat pro and early thoughts.

I had mine in for just over 12 months and loved it for the most part. It did start to bother me not been able to hold it on a hill using the gears with the engine off.

Ok thanks for posts so far.

I have installed the Rekluse, and the bike still goes … thats good!

But I am not understanding what the instructions are telling me in ‘Finding the Starting Point’.

I wind the 2mm screw in until I feel it stop … then go to wind in a further 1 1/4 turns, but theres no way that little screw will wind more than about a 1/2 turn.

I put everything back together, and warm bike up, and ride. Theres no probs with gears, changing or anything, but I cant sit at idle in first gear … it stalls.

Any suggestions ? Do I just keep winding that screw back unitl it works? Finding the starting point has me baffled !

I think if its the same as mine, you screw the screw all the way in until it touches and then 2 ticks from there (there are little tick marks on the plate)

Hope that helps but yours could be different.
