Mal at Sutto’s has talked me into trying a IRC VE33 Rear Tire, I used an IRC rear a couple of years ago down on a high country ride that ended day one with a destroyed rear tyre so bad that photos of the tyre ended up in a magazine lol
I got it to use at Nundle for starters, the ED 78 will be kept for dryer conditions rides now that it has done 1380kms
The IRC
The sales rant I found on the net
For use in Enduro conditions
Dimpled knobs for extra gripping power
Puncture resistant casing
Long wear lifeTB

July 8, 2009 at 5:19 am #142652Hey fella’s
I’ve been running IRC M5 140’s on the rear of my 525 for years. Getting about 800 + kms (no road use). Love them:woohoo: I have a bridgestone on now because I couldn’t get the IRC and there is no comparison:woohoo: Can’t seem to get the M5B anymore don’t know why:( Haven’t seen the VE33 but they may be worth a go:)
Cheers:cheer:

At this stage I would say its a good thing, not much dearer than a retread, the case construction is known, it seems to at this stage grip as well on my 650 as well as a M12. I am running it with a Moouse, Mick is running his with a tube. The one I am using has done around 750kms and is wearing very well but time will tell.

July 8, 2009 at 9:04 am #142712Hey menace,
you think I should get one of these to replace the rubber band I’ve got on the back now.July 10, 2009 at 9:57 pm #142713
AnonymousI’d be interested to hear Mick’s report too. And interested in the new IRC, everyone seemed to love the M5B.

AnonymousNow I don’t know much about tyres but I do know that I love this tyre. I had my new one on the Nundle ride and at one point when we stopped someone said ‘How slippery is it?’ and I couldn’t believe it because I can honestly say that I hadn’t even noticed it was slippery at all. That’s when I realised how good the tyre was. I know DanD was really impressed with his tyre as well but he can post a more ‘technical’ review because he knows more than me (in some regards anyway).

Anonymouswell I am impressed. The VE33 is one good tyre. Both of the D bikes were fitted with them prior to the Nundle ride.
On Kylies bike I fiited a 110/100×18 on mine it was a 5.8×18.
These tyres replaced a Bridgestone ED12 on Kylies bike which was about 3000km old with still a little bit left in it and my bike had a MX Retread with just over 1000km on it with no life left at all.
Since having the 450 this is the third tyre that I have had on it, the first being a 1/2 worn Bridgestone ED16 and the second was the retread. So basically I have never had full traction on this bike.
The first bit of dirt that the VE33 bit into I felt something that I haven’t felt yet on the 450 – TRACTION. This tyre is an excellent all round tyre in my opinion. It hooked up well on all surfaces that we rode on at Nundle and not once did I feel like it was going to loose traction (except for when I wanted it to). The wear was minimal considering the amount of time that I spent twisting the wrist. If I had been a little more careful there would of been next to no wear. The leading edges are a little bit rounded but considering the different type of terrain that we encounted at Nundle and the fact that the 450 is a bit of a cranky bike i am more than happy with how everything turned out.
The tyre on Kylies bike you would swear that it had only gone to the end of the driveway and back.
Both of us were more than happy with the VE33 and I will definately be buying another one when this one wears out.
RATING 10/10

Well done Dan, nice write up, so is it a different bike with traction
I am itching to have a go at my IRC because they look like such a good tyre, and if they wear OK they are only just over $20 bucks more than the other tyre you tried on our last ride. See the rim protector, its a good looking thing
Am looking forward to next weekend even more now after reading this

July 31, 2009 at 3:27 am #145969My StoneKing is still going strong. I cant believe the small amount of wear for so much riding.
