A few of you may already know that I have been working on a XR600 motard for a fella, it wouldn’t go even after several people had “looked at” it. I spent several hours dicking around with different stock carbies and it would go but it wasn’t “happy”.
I eventually talked the owner into forking out $429 for a 39mm Mikuni flat slide carbie. I bolted the new carbie in and after one priming kick the XR fired up and sat there and idled happily. A test run up the road proved that it was indeed very happy with its new carbie!! So a longer test run was needed and I spent Saturday arvo, having a ball on some of the twisty roads around Rollands Plains and Beechwood. It went so good and I was having so much fun on it that I didn’t want to give it back to the owner!! I now have a plan in my head to build one for myself in the future.
Here it is just before I took it out for a spin. It is a wild bit of work.

Sunday, saw me with a leave pass to do what ever, so I dragged the Harley out of the shed and headed off and ended up 170kms away at Seal Rocks, where I met up with a few mates that I haven’t seen in years. A beer and a yarn with them was a great way to spend some time before I headed back north on the big girl, she doesn’t handle potholes on gravel roads all that well but after riding 2000kms recently on the NX with a blown rear shock, I soon got the hang of the way the Harley “didn’t” handle the dirt. I ended up clocking up 340kms for the day and the Harley didn’t miss a beat, not bad for an old girl with over 90,000kms on the clock!
It seems that I am a bike slut, no matter what I ride I seem to have a great time..
