Rossco the Garmin 60csx are a great unit, easy to use for loading routes or saving tracks and plenty of guys here use them. Zuno is another brand that is quite popular, it has a bigger screen but from what I have seen they are not quite as user friendly for following routes on the run.

    Yeah mate,,
There are quite a few threads on here about GPS units, pros & cons etc etc
You will find it hard to go past Garmin 60 or the newer 62 series units

A lot of us run the 60CSX or 62`s on the 2 day navigation rides as well as normal day trips.
Very easy to use, wide range of mount options, hardwire kits, software & great maps ;)

TB has all the knowledge, as he has about a dozen units of different models  And he uses them to great advantage.
That`s exactly what he is doing right now for the weekend, mapping out next weeks route :woohoo:

Have a gander thru this lot until he chimes in to help out,, he will, he can`t help himself ;)

    Yep, Sure are ;)
And the little 60 & 62`s are pretty easy to see on the fly which is important.
There are larger more sophisticated units that do the same as car navigation units (Zumo series) but if you are after a cheaper more robust unit, these are hard to go past ..

    Good Luck on the research

    Rossco,

I’m newish to this GPS business and like you I was a bit worried a handheld would not be enough – but I used a Garmin Etrex on the last Nav rally and it was fine. I had it mounted on the handlebars on a standard RAM mount and had no trouble. Just remember if you are running it off batteries (which I do) to take a second set for day 2.

    Good luck

Better to have the unit hard wired if possible and forget the battery dramas.
Also makes it possible to leave the backlight on which makes the maps easier to see ;)

I found that after a while with all the vibrations they can can turn themselves off when running on batteries. The connections seem to get loose and they turn off every few minutes, or at least mine did.

    Yeah,
My 60CSX did that too before I hardwired it mate
No probs now though (touchwood)
