AnonymousWhat Kenda Say:
For a true Intermediate tire combo try the Washougal. The tread pattern is designed for all those areas of terrain between hard packed and loose dirt… it offers a very wide range of application. The knobs are positioned to provide a large number of biting edges at any lean angle and the shoulder knob design is unique resulting in a very predictable slide which means you can get on the throttle sooner exiting corners.
During my last trip in to see the boys at Track & Trail they persuaded me to try a Kenda Washougal rear tyre. I was skeptical about it’s perfomance after the almost unanamous reviews it’s Carlsabad brother got, however, I went on recommendation from the shop.
I had a 110/100 and the tyre looks pretty good when fitted and does have some decent size knobs on it. Using the highly scientific method of twisting the knobs with my fingers I noted that they felt quite firm and started to worry more about grip.
I have since covered 70 K’s on the tire and have to say that so far it seems to be pretty good. It’s no S12, then again it isn’t supposed to be. It seems to grip pretty well and slides predicatably. Wear doesn’t look bad so far but time will tell. If it holds up for a decent amount of K’s it has the makings of a great all round tyre at a good price.
When I have tested it more I will add to the post. If you decide you can’t wait till then stop by the boys at Track & Trail at Belmont and they’ll get one fitted to your rim for $120 all in
May 20, 2009 at 5:13 am #135211Do you often go around twisting knobs with your fingers?

AnonymousI don’t know why I bothered.
May 20, 2009 at 5:32 am #135217I would be keen to hear how the Millville goes so next time you want to test a Kenda give that one a go.
Although it will take more than three tyre levers to get that S12 off me. I love it!
May 20, 2009 at 5:34 am #135221I do Moto, because I for one am very interested as you know, I was just sitting here thinking how good a job you have done, and maybe I was feeling bad for my indiscretion but it is OBT
My question is mate, do they come in a 120 or 130 for bigger bikes?

If the boys can get one it may be the next tyre I try
The graph was taken from the US website, I’m not actually sure what kinda selection we get over here.

AnonymousI just spoke with Track and Trail and confirm the following:
– Yes they can get/already have the Millville soft tyre.
– Yes they do tyres in a bigger size which is 120/100 which is equivalent to 140/80.
– All tyres are available in a softer compond (I am testing the standard). They obviously wear quicker but grip better at the same time.May 20, 2009 at 5:53 am #135230

No that’s the Carlsabad which is a hard terrain tyre.
May 20, 2009 at 5:56 am #135233Millville, Millville, Millville.
It’s fun to say isn’t it.
I bet Menace could write a good ballad about it.
May 20, 2009 at 6:05 am #135235My new WR came with a Millville on it. I have only done a couple of short rides on it so far.
One was out at Bulls in the wet it seemed to have plenty of grip in the mud the other ride was just out from home in the dry or should say dryer area it also seemed to handle the rocky stuff ok a little loose on corners with just adds to the fun. not sure how long it will lastMay 20, 2009 at 6:10 am #135237Metzeler MC5 rears are shit, but fronts are excellent.
May 20, 2009 at 6:15 am #135239I will be interested in the Kenda you have there young Moto, as in my experience the Kenda tyre R&D is mostly on the MX circuit.
Big Knobs you say?
