Personally I have a bit of respect for most who get into politics, I believe most of them start out trying to do the right thing, Nats/Libs/labor/Greens, all believe they have a contribution to make, beats sitting on yer ass criticising anyone having a go.

June 24, 2010 at 6:28 am #182441For mine, it’s easy to sit and point. Yes some of what he did or tried to do failed (in some cases spectacularly)but he had a go at least. I get a bit tired of hearing people blame the pollies for things they can’t control. Yes the housing insulation scheme ended up a mess but was it Peter Garretts job to check every house to ensure it was done properly? Was it his job to go around and make sure that all installers were properly trained? It’s like the CEO of Holden having to go and sell the cars himself, people down the line failed in there duty ( and I am talking about government departments ere not politicians) and those same people will still be there when the next Goverment comes along.
Another example was the rego stickers in Victoria falling off due to substandard glue being used and people calling for some pollies head to roll, was it really his job to check all the stickers and make sure they stuck on?
They’re not all angels but they’re not all sinners either.End of Soapboxing
June 24, 2010 at 6:44 am #182421I agree that all pollies start out wanting to do good but they get caught up in the corrupt system of whats in it for me and lerks and perks.
bottom line is that in a business if you let stuff ups like rudd has done happen you would be sacked and your company goes broke.
Governments arent accountable they run out of money – simple they just raise or invent new taxes or borrow money.Imagine if your business was struggling and you could force your customers to just pay more or force them to have a support agreement – not possible in reality but for the government thats exactly what they do. They dont have to operate efficiently they just have an endless supply of money and I for one am sick and tired of being screwed – just look at how much we have to pay to register and insure our chookies!!!
Government policy – dont fix it just make it user pays.
And just remember WOMEN are the biggest FUN POLICE and fun police dont like motorbikes because they are dangerous!!!
June 24, 2010 at 6:48 am #182442Too right Jeffro, i usually find the loudest objectors are people that are mediocre’ at what they do, or plain lazy in the first place. Must give them the insight to believe everyone else is the same.
Kev tried, what more can we ask
Peter Costello tried, again what more can we ask
PJK tried, didn’t sell it well, but did some great things, we deride and hounded him for it, even Costello praised him for setting up our system to be where it is today.I worry about the destroyers, the demolition men, I prefer builder and doers myself.

Agreed to a degree OWL, however a governement isn’t and should never be treated as a business, or it will become user pays for everything. A governements duty is to guide the country, it’s people and society in general in the manner that which the constitution frames it, and doing the greater good for all.
again I reiterate, a governement should build on things, or set up new necessary infrastructure and set the boundaries for us, not destroy and cut down what’s already built without recourse or replacement.
Business is a completely different animal, it has one purpose only to make a profit for the shareholder(s) wether that be a corner store or a multi-national player. Government is for the people, by the people, and if my tax dollars go to the needy and less fortunate, I will willingly pay them, however if it goes to a CEO of a business that is getting too many breaks already I will jack up and vote for the ones that will stop this.
and this goes for the mining tax, wish people would check into things before they deride them, real life royalties have dropped from 33% to less than 13% for us the owners of the resource, and the baby-boomer generation is on the cusp of wholesale retirements with not enough super, so who’s gunna pay for them?
Remember they paid for our education and childhoods, and for their own parents pensions, isn’t it fair someone supports them, just how is now the dillemma whoeever gets in next times ahs to face… how
June 24, 2010 at 7:07 am #182444remember Mrs Thatcher the first british female prime minister in the 80’s ,shudder !!!!
I hope their aren’t any similaritys.June 24, 2010 at 7:08 am #182430Jeffro wrote:

June 24, 2010 at 7:14 am #182445Ok soapbox one more time
The mining tax, look at it this way. If you boss came up to you and said I am going to pay you an extra $100,000 a year but only on the condition that you give $40,000 of it to the Government would you take the money or tell him to stick it and go and work else where?
Of course you would take it and the same for the mining industry, they are not going to sacrifice 10 billion dollars in profit (arbitrary figure but not out of the realms of possibility) just because they have to give the government 400 million of it. That’s why they are campaigning so hard against it, they know if it comes in they wont go elsewhere (where operating costs will be cheaper) they will still do what they are always ahve and rape the land for everything they can get and they WILL pay it.

I’m sure she isn’t but she sounds a little slow and that’s not an image (read sound) that I want for the leader of my country.

We live in the geographical location known as Austral Asia aka Australia aka Commonwealth of Australia but we operate under a corporation called “COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA” note the All Caps.. All fictitious entities within the English language are noted by all caps.. ie; Book Titles, Corporations, Persons(under law another form of corporation) etc.
The corporation we live under and work for(your income tax) is registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission CIK#0000805157.
Hey don’t trust what I say, go see for yourself but be warned it will crush the illusion you live under…
http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?CIK=0000805157&action=getcompany
You can even read the latest annual report for the corporation. See how much gold reserve the corporation has and check out the corporations description, it is a photo of the land mass or geographical location known as Australia..
We are treated like mushrooms.. Always kept in the dark……….
June 24, 2010 at 9:00 am #182461If I get up early I can go for a surf. If I stay up late I can drink more beer. If I don’t want to mow the lawn on a weekend I can ride my bike twice. My baby breaths clean air and my neighbours are friendly.
We live in the best country on earth so enough cynical shit already and appreciate what we have, not what others want to take or how they measure their wealth!

And with that I am going to exercise my right as a site owner to close and lock this thread as I feel no good can come from political discussions on a dirt bike forum
