Well after realising that the Watagan Trail Demolition was being held and just having got my new bike I had to go for a ride somewhere didn’t I?
So Austblue and I decided that we would ride at Kitchener[near Cessnock].
On my way up the F3 there were bikes everywhere as regardless of the torrential rain the Watagans demolition crew was out in force.A couple of em were giving me strange looks as I drove sraight past the Wattos turn off and continued north towards Kitchener

We parked at Heritage park Just past the Khartoum Hotel
There is a poppet head in the park.I had no clue what a poppet head was until I googled it

The weather was a lot better than I expected with the sun shining brightly on my new steed as I awaited AB’s arrival.

Well AB arrived and had to do a few things to the Kato before he was ready to ride.I dont know what the benefit is to pouring oil all around the filler tube  Must be a KTM thing

Well we set off straight into some single trail and passed heaps of rubbish that had been dumped there.Grubs
I’ve driven up there before in a 4wd so I had a basic idea of the layout. Before too long we came to the base of a clay hill that looked pretty steep.I would have hit it without even thinking about it on the XR but this CRF had me wondering
Well I hit it in 2nd an powered to the top.First test passed B)
I got off and waited for AB at the top.His first attempt wasn’t successful but he cracked it on the 2nd one.

We found another trail that looked like it had another little hill climb that looked pretty steep.AB hit it first and got 90% of the way up but got stuck on some slimy red clay at the top.I had taken off not too far behind him so when I got up to where he was I had to stop.I doubt I would have made it any way as this section was so slippery that turning bikes around was a challenge as we could hardly stay upright. While we were there we spotted another line just of to the side of where we were that looked like a better option.
I hit it as fast as I could and made it up first time[This little CRF is quite the mountain goat ;)

Here is AB after his second attempt

Here is a pic of my tyre after that hillclimb

    packed1small.jpg

Well after AB had come down on the climb he pointed out to me that he had snapped a bit off his gear lever and coudn’t change gears any more :( .So we stopped and checked out what we could do about it.In my tool roll I always keep a selection of nuts/bolts/washers so after a bit of a think about it we came up with this fix.

Well the sun stayed out[apart from one light shower] and we road from about 8.30 till 1ish and covered about 45k’s.Checked out the amazing view from the lookout, found a nice little sandy section and just cruised around.
Well my first trip out on the 250X was a success and I had a great time riding with Trent.I will ride in that area again soon :)

    Cheers P-Dub

    Nice.

I like XRs. Alot. But now that one can’t be bought new these days, I wonder if you could do a write up on the comparison on th XR to the CRF? (One day I might be allowed to buy a new bke! and the CRF might just be the ticket)

No worries Shane.I will need to get the 250 into some different terrain to really give it the test but my initial thoughts on my new bike are “F#%$#en awesome :) Plenty of power[for me] and after getting the suspension set up for my weight before I got it I can honestly say that I have ever felt more comfortable on a bike before B)
Plus it rides like a Honda…..ya gotta love that ;)

It was a great ride – I’m a bit dusty after a big night but I’ll try and put some words together :p

Pete’s machine looked like it just came out of the crate at the start of the day but it looked much better by the end of the day especially since most of the pink had been covered in mud :D

Kitchener had some excellent riding with a good mix of clay and sand, tight and open and even a few hills – one of which got the better of me and my gear lever as Pete showed in the pic. Big thanks to Pete for having just the right nut and bolt to fix it up without much fuss.

Following Pete was funny, I kept trying to be fast and wasn’t and pete just kept ggod pace but was cruising through.

Hey nice vid! what a fun day! I was a bit sloppy on that second run but its great to watch and pick up tips like I need to get my leg up and further forward :)

What Pete unfortunately missed was how I ended up having the lay down. After the two cool wheelies I tried to stop by grabbing the fronts but it was so greasy I just slid back down backwards and hit the deck laughing my arse off :D

Nice vid guys and nice t see you get out and ride somewhere different. I’d be keen to get out to Kitchener when I get my towbar sorted.

P-Dub – Have you ridden any trails in Medowie before? Also, if you and/or Trent are keen we could go for a burn near my place if you with Champo. theres some great little single trail and whoop sections there :)

I’m busy again until the 10th of july but will be keen then. Kitchener is definitely a good alternative and as Pete and I were saying yesterday if the watties are flogged out after this weekend it’d be good to have something else to ride that’s nearby. Moto I can squeeze two on the ute and I have a towbar if you have a trailer and want to work out a car pool somehow.

I just grabbed the parts manual and looked up the shift lever and they want $101 for an OEM! Good news is you can get the step plate seperately for just $50

Luckily Ballards have billet levers for $40 :)

Yeah I bought some stuff from ballards last week – and now they have a sale on and the levers I bought are only $20 :( I’ll be taking a closer look to see if I can make the most of the sale and get some more bits.
