I bought a ’95 KLE500 last weekend while I was away with the Mrs.
[totally not what I was thinking of as a replacement for the KLR  ]

It will be arriving next Saturday :woohoo:

The old ’87 KLR650 will end up being sold [the Wee-Strom is staying around though B) ].

So…… any hints on modifications/add ons I should look for?

The main things I’m looking for at the moment are pannier racks and a bigger fuel tank.

In reality the main thing will be the racks as I can live with the 15 litre tank for now and just carry my jerry cans if I need to.

    Ock.

I bought one of those brand new of the floor when I lived in Mackay QLD, as a commuter bike out to North Goonyella with about 70km of dirt, ground clearance was a problem,so beefup the suspension ASAP I cracked the oil pan on the 2nd trip, I got a 3mm alluminium bash plate made ASAP, designed it my self, used the original as a bit of a template and added to it I think you should have got another KLR 650, mine was a lemon, the engine got stripped dowm twice for cam chain tensioner and guide issues, under warranty but it was off the road for six months.
It was ok apart from that good to go two up etc.
    Best of luck.
More suited to 80% road and 20% good gravel road.

I bought one with about 18k on it and fitted a Delkevic muffler, sounded sweet but the lack of brakes no bigger tank available

and the suspenion needed work , the seat wasn’t that good eather so I traded it on a DR650 .

I did read somewhere that someone ran one in the Dakar they cut the top

out of one tank and bottom out of another and welded them to gether to get more fuel capacity.

As Chicken said the bash plate needs to be heavier as well

    mine was an 2006

    Good luck with it
