Born a skeptic, now a believer!

08 KLR650 just been given the Teknik treatment.

As I’ve said before, I’m not a great rider so when I hit something big, be it a rut, a root, or a woop-dee-doo, it’s usually unintentional rather than an expression of my bravado.

In such circumstances the stock KLR suspension bottoms out something terrible which is very off-putting and jars like hell. I lose whatever confidence I had and finish the ride like a granny.

On every motorcycle forum there are riders who share how “the suspension upgrade has tranformed my bike”. I have to admit that the skeptic in me had me believing that the majority of those ‘riders’ had a vested interest in the sale of suspension components but I have joined their ranks as a believer.

Trailboss encouraged me to ring Nick again at Tekniks and he has sorted front and rear springs, serviced the rear shock and also organised to source and fit a new front tyre all for what seemed like a fair price. Since I had to travel from Maitland he was willing to do a ride in, ride out, one day turn around and I am very happy with the results.

Took the bike for a test run this week and, for now at least, the granny is gone. Confidence is high and ability still average so there was still a couple of ‘moments’, but I can’t wait now for the High Country Ride in May.

Those of us riding KLR’s are not usually flush with money. It’s why we bought the ‘Poverty Pack’ in the first place. But it seems that suspension is one area where a significant improvement can be made for relatively little outlay. Thumbs up and a big thankyou to Teknik (and to TB for suggesting I persevere).

    :woohoo:

Hey thanks Junior, it’s great to have the support of the OB network.
