G’day just wondering what jetting anyone out there with a klx450r is running. I put in the 48 pilot and 148 main and moved the clip down one position on the needle. I have removed the snorkel on the air box and removed the bung from the exhaust but other then that the bike is stock. I noticed a shit load more power from the lean stock settings but maybe i could go richer still? it is still running a bit hot. Anyway just curious as to what everyone has done…
February 23, 2009 at 6:26 am #123433It does sound like you are to lean, 148 ? F#$k me!! Go as rich as you can then work your way back a step at a time. I would hazard to guess that you should be around the 165-168 for your main. where are you riding? remember jetting is all about throttle position. The last 3rd is the main. hope this helps. Hey aron what are you running?

AnonymousI didn’t know any of the 450’s ran a pilot anywhere near that small…..
Sure you didn’t mean 168?
February 24, 2009 at 3:30 am #123598yeh it is definitely 148. the stock settings are 45 pilot 145 main and the clip on the needle in the second from top position. In stock form and riding at around 1000m high it was still over heating after about 10 mins of slow first gear riding. i put in the 48 pilot and 148 main as they came in the spares kit, and also moved the clip down a notch. When i get the first major service done in about another 200kms when i get 1000kms up i might buy a JD kit and get it jetted properly. The guy i take it to has a dyno so he should get it pretty much spot on. I ride from sea level upto around 1200m too so pretty much everything our flat country has to offer. So i take it that no one else on here has a klx 450r?

The JD jetting kit is a good investment I noticed the difference on my WR450 The crap aussie dollar has made them a tad expensive though now over $150:dry:

February 24, 2009 at 7:36 am #123637Thanks Ollie. Yeah the fuel screw is a bastard i dunno know if you would even get to it without taking off the carby. At that price it might just be easier to buy a few main jets at about 10 bucks each try them out.

Ballards do JD as well

November 10, 2009 at 5:23 am #123435the best jetting for the klx is 48pilot 162main drop the needle clip 1 position, also wire the accelerator pump and run the mixture screw at 2 1/2 turns out, change the leak jet to a 55 or 60 (this is the small jet in the float bowl) this is the jetting used by MSC Kawasaki Off-Road, the klx can go backwards if its to rich on the main so it can be a bit tricky to get it spot on! the MSC bikes run Barrett Exhaust with a Uni Filter.
hope this helpsNovember 10, 2009 at 5:28 am #160264mark wrote:

Welcome to the site Mark
November 11, 2009 at 8:19 pm #160395yes, looks like i need to go for a larger main jet but maybe not that big as i only have the stock exhaust, maybe a 160 or 155. thanks for the info mate
November 24, 2009 at 6:40 am #160550use a 155 or 158 and go 2 and 1/4 turns out on with a standard exhaust, im sure would have already but make sure the exhuast baffle is pulled out, with this removed the pipe doesnt change the jetting very much.
cheers
January 26, 2010 at 9:02 am #123436Leave the bike in the shed for a couple of days……well months and look out more klx’s appear good stuff
IT WOULD HAVE TOOK THAT LONG TO FIND THE FUEL SCREW IF IT WASNT FOR OLLIE
Any how 158?….. its been that long, i know it WAS neer 160 although there is a t4 powercore and a powerbomb hedder to consider
I replaced the needle and will be searching for the specs for ya mate (wont hear the end of it if i get it wrong ey ollie
) only take a couple of days as we have recently moved.SHIT EVERYWHERE – on the up side i now have a 20 bike garage to work with! woohoo :woohoo:
Im looking for some info on the evap system i know they are on for emmisions sake but have herd roumors of restrictors within the pipe back to the airbox, then moe talk that they can be plugged?
Wich way to go plug or open? it seems to make more sence to me to open not to build up pressure……..what would i know? it took me weeks to install a fuel screw lol
