A few year back TB organised a bulk buy of asteroid knee braces and I was one of the many who bought them.
What I’m wondering is how everyone else’s are holding up as mine are getting pretty shagged despite getting them serviced/ repaired last December. Apart from cosmetically looking a bit rough there seems to be a shit load of movement sideways in the mid joint metal “hooks” that link top and bottom halves. Thinking it may be time for some new ones.
December 5, 2015 at 5:45 am #263141I got some of those too. Still look new, oh, hang on, I haven’t worn em yet. Still cant bring myself to throw out the old ones. Slack ah.

December 5, 2015 at 9:37 pm #263144Hey Snowy mine are approaching the end of their life and they have done more miles than most. I have just bought Lochie (Eldest son) a pair of Matrix braces from Stephen Gall for around $600. He spend the time measuring and adjusting them to get the perfect (like but not custom) fit. I am getting a pair of him as well soon.
I could organise another deal with Gally and maybe even a central meet and fit day, who knows if there is enough interest. I can definitely put you onto him either way.
I looked at other braces before speaking with Gally (He does most the RideADV rides) I looked at single side and all sorts because I have rooted knees and this is really important to me. I like the Asterisk braces as these are my second set but the after sales support from Gally in the Gold Coast instead of a company on the other side of the planet makes more sense. As for the movement in the joints you described that is normal and I am sure when strapped in place will be fine. Gally used to sell Asterisk and knows the product and said they are a good thing.

December 6, 2015 at 12:32 am #263145Thanks Greg. I’ll try and get a bit more out of these then, but if we can do another bulk buy of the matrix braces in the new year I’ll be interested. Just need to get Christmas and two kids weddings out of the way first. the service aspect would be interesting as I found it a real pain in the arse to have to go back to a retailer to get them to deal with the suppliers of. The asterix brace when I got them serviced / repaired last year and then struggled to see what if anything they did for the $200 fee!
December 6, 2015 at 5:19 am #263146I went from asterisk to Leatt and are loving them.
Single sided makes a lot of sense and feels much more natural on the bike.STM
January 24, 2016 at 9:38 am #263147sorry to dig up an old thread but have to say mine have copped a hiding but they’re still holding together and doing their job like a charm. Had a huge crash at yellow mountain cross country and tore my left quadricep. Lucky to only have that as it should have shattered my knee in all directions.
Cheers gents -
