Had a new ACL put in my L knee on tuesday (12/10) got the new LARS synthetic one as the other knee was done 14 yr’s ago with a hamstring donation and still annoys me today.

Anyone want the post op photo’s? maybe you’ll have one soon and need
    (1) motivation, “it doesn’t look that bad”!!

    (2) Discouragement, I’m going to buy those knee braces, they seem so cheap!!

Keep the pics to yourself mate :X THat sort of thing grosses me out. I have had two ACL recons, one time THey asked me whether I wanted a video of the operation, My response went something like “F*$* Off why would I want that??” When I had mine done for the second time I had a hamstring graft as well and it still shits me and still isn’t right. Why did you get it done again, did it come undone or something?? No doubt, sometime down the track I will need a full knee replacement. :(

    Not the same one actually!

Yes, stupid enough to do a similar thing again!

    Photo’s, actually looks pretty good.

would you believe up and about today, could start light physio but the swelling is the point so lots of R.I.C.E.

They say I can jog 2 weeks post op but I couldn’t jog before the op so go figure.

That hammy is a problem but even when we eventually have knee replacements they will still leave the hamstring so….. Penalty of play!!

Where did you get it done?? My first one was a pattela graft at our local hospital in Port Macquarie, it lasted less than a year before I was at North Sydney sports medicine to get it done again at Castlecraig in Nth Sydney. In and out in less tha 24hrs with no brace. I was up and about less than 10hrs after the op, the doctor said he loved smokers as they are always the first out of bed and getting about.

The surgeon I had last time, Craig Waller (Bulldogs & Cronulla I think), had moved from Concord private to St Vincents so I followed. I told him I looked him up to see if he was still doing them and he said “what else would I have been doing” to which I replied “plumbing”.

He did the first grade footballer Luke Covell who went back in 10 weeks, Waller reckond Luke wanted to go back after 6 weeks!!

Well…. I bought this Gas Gas trials bike and …… I mastered riding it ahem, ahem.

    Stupid, stupid bike!

50 this year but made the same decision a 17y/old would have made and….. end result.

Isn’t insanity making a decision that never worked and expecting a different reult?

Dam you beat to it old boy. :P

    Riggs what REALLY happened was:

Dear penthouse. I bought a trials bike and a tight lycra riding suit. Then put the suit on in the shed, jumped on the bike and rode past the mirror looking at myself and well the rest is history….

Rest up mate and see you tomorrow. :)

That is a nice avatar mate. That must be moments before the blowout.

You should be back on it next week. ;)

Well, here I am 1 month down the track and going great guns! No real limp and work as hard as ever!!

Thought that you might like some $ figures incase you are ever unfortunate enough to do the same.

LARS (synthetic ligament) ACL reconstruction $5,200.
Anethsitist (??) $750. (stay at school kids)
    Medicare rebate $1,200.
    HCF rebate $1,200.

So about $3,500 job. plus specialist is $200. a visit (but it is for 20 min, so not like its a rip off eh!)

Now where it gets expensive is sitting on the lounge with ice packs and a laptop and finding that bike
you want on the interweb…….. Love my new F800GS, now need to be able to ride it! Salesman did follow up
call last week to see hows it’s going, how would I know, only sat on it twice in the garage last week!

Conclusion; get that knee fixed asap but throw out the laptop before the operation!

    OK cool,

Good to hear that all is going well.

Do you think decent knee braces would’ve prevented the damage ?

    #188917

Yes, I think it would limit the opportunity to damage but having said that both of my knee destruction jobs
would probably still have done damage but maybe not so much??? Good question though!

Better if you don’t make stupid decisions though, first one was maybe when I was mid to late 20’s
but the 2nd one this year, you would think I would have known better! 😆
