Tech help needed to diagnose problem with Tims little smoker :(
Coolant getting into gearbox, picked up noting whiteish oil coming out of front breather hose
Unfortunately it cut Tims ride short on the Southend Wato’s ride
I’m guessing it could be the water pump seal????
Has anybody else had the same issue???
I remember doing a water pump seal on his YZ 125 years ago
    Pretty straight forward job
Is this the best place to start trying to fix the problem???
    Cheers

yes Murph when you think about it really is the only place water can get in,unless he has submarined it

Has there been a noticeable drop in the level of his radiator?

I would just change the seal assembly complete (including the bearing) for peace of mind.

    Hey Ollie
Yes he had been losing significant amounts of water from his radiators.
Will ring KTM tomorrow and see if they have a water pump kit otherwise I’ll have to buy each part seperate
According to the drawing the impeller doesn’t seem to be keyed or splined so I’d imagine it must be pressed onto the shaft. Could be a bit tricky to remove??? I’ll keep you updated if I can ever get Tim home long enough to actually do some work
    Cheers

on my ktm 4stroke the impeller is plastic and it has a flat peice on the shaft easy pecy not sure about the 200 but .its got a weep hole to let you no if its leaking and the water does not end up in the oil not sure if this is of any help on the 200 but may be different

    Thanks Rocket
Job looks easy and the seal in question is only $8 so I will spend more on fuel picking up the part than the cost of the fix. Will tear into it this arvo providing my son has nothing else on the agenda

New seal and bearing fitted to water pump and am now in the drawn out process of flushing contaminated oil from gearbox. Replaced oil three times and still milky in colour.
Radiator seems to be holding coolant so all is good

If your concerned about water still getting into the gearbox, you could stand the up ,drain the g/box oil and pressurize the radiator if there is still a leak than water will drip from the drain hole. If you think the seal is OK check the casing for pin holes from electrolises. The most common cause of you problem after seal.

On the 4th flush with new oil all is good.
    Glad it only takes 700ml
The oil came out clean not milky :woohoo:
Now he’s keen for the weekend :woohoo: :woohoo:
    Cheers
