anyone had the trouble of bending your left side footpeg bracket? i snapped the whole thing off last week, the bolts snapped, i replaced them with high tensile, but now the whole thing seems to be bending under my weight. i’m afraid the bracket will snap now not the bolts, any tips?
ps its alloy maybe i could get a steel one made up?
March 11, 2009 at 8:20 am #125469Interesting 4skin, mine snapped on the weeknd as well, will be interesting to hear Moto regarding your problem on a KTM as he gave me flak regarding Honda foot peg bolts :blink: .
Now to your problem, is the mating surface where the foot peg bolts on flat, if its not file it flat, if its not flat the peg rocks on the uneven surface stretching the bolts and snapping them again and again

March 11, 2009 at 8:31 am #125477yeah its flat, but the stupid long bracket is bending, its similar to the old xr 400 bracket only alloy not steel. i thought maybe someone had encountered this problem and found a solution.
March 11, 2009 at 9:18 am #125480far out i hate last minute garage shenanigans, on closer inspection it turns out the back bolt was stripped or not bitting in far enough so i put a longer sucker on it with a nut on the back for extra security. but i still have concerns about the bracket bending, someone in dirt bike world just told me to shed a couple of kilos, i asked him how he knew i was a fat fu**er!

I haven’t seen the footpeg arrangement on the 625, but if it’s like the XR ones and alloy I can see why your having issues. Getting stell version certainly sounds like it would help
Post a picture so we can see what it looks like……
March 11, 2009 at 10:12 pm #125518Seems like crappy design really. Makes me wonder which little boffin sat down to design it. You could bet ol’ mate has never ridden the bike off-road, if at all! That’s the problem with those design engineers, they don’t usually have to use the product once it is made.
Disclaimer: That general sweeping statement, of course, does not apply to my brother who designs Jabiru planes… and then flies them himself!
March 11, 2009 at 11:05 pm #125519It should be taught in engineering that once YOU have designed and had something manufactured, YOU become the first operator, suddenly things would be better. Imagine if TMs engineers had to try and ride their 300 ENs suddenly a whole new engine would be on the boards, imagine if hondas engineers had to pay for valves, suddenly valve longevity would be paramount, and imagine if KTM engineers had to ride their product over sharp midsized obstacles, what would they do I wonder?

Ab-so-bloody-lootly!!! And further to that, they should be made to WORK ON said machines! How many of us swear when working on machines – can’t get a socket on that without taking off the other bit, but my hand won’t fit in there to get that so I have to pull off the whatsit…

Only from a stuctural point of view anyway (which ultimately may change the design as a different material may need to be used or a part made thicker).

AnonymousFor sure, but that’s one of those nice areas where function and peformance are valued over form. I would have loved to gotten into motorsport of somekind, it would have been possible too when back in the UK, not quite sure where it all went wrong :laugh:
