Gyday Fella’s I have a replacement kick starter shaft to go on the 99 EXC 300. Unfortunatley it did not come from the wreckers with the ratchet pawl attached. My question is how do you remove the pawl from the old shaft and fit it to the new one with out rooting it. any ideas?

The pin would press out wouldnt it Ollie? The pin would have to be an interference fit. Take it to work and give it to one of your fitter and turners. They will just support it on the flat side of the ratchet paw and press the pin through with a drift, and press the pin out of the new one and swap it over press the best pin of the two into the new 2nd hand one

You know TB your probably right, I will give it a go tomorrow at work.Seems odd when the new one came with the Pin still in place but the pawl has been removed. There is also evidence that something has been used as a lever to remove it:dry: cheers mate

    Dave or Bull any ideas?

No Ollie not really, you ordered a shaft I would say (cheapest option), so if they keep that pawl when someone else breaks a pawl but their shaft is OK they will sell them the pawl only yeah?? Good Business I think for a wreckers, us less you asked for a complete assembly which I am judging by your response you didnt
