It’s rather slow on here so I thought I’d post something up for people to help, consider, enjoy or mock.

I’m in the process of going over a heap of things on my 300 EXC, at the moment there is just a frame and engine together, the rest is all over the shed floor.

I’ve had to heat up all 4 T25 screws that hold the power valve retaining plates in – the factory thread locking compound they used is seriously way too good. Hammering, and impact driver didn’t work. Got them out with some blue fire.

The kickstart pivot bolt is a tapered allen head – m6. Holds the alloy kicker to the steel pivot that splines to the kick shaft. Removal of this bolt after 8 years took so much heat we couldn’t touch it after an hour (lunch). Problem then is the replacement bolt – it’s a KTM special but not on the parts list for engine. Kick starter shown, but not the bolt. I’m not buying the whole kickstarter for $190 for the bolt.

Was thinking of getting someone to mill out the taper of the kick starter so I can use a normal allen head bolt.

Sorry Axel, I didnt get to it last night, bloody kids!!
I wouldn’t have anything with the dome and countersunk head but if you could get away with just a normal countersunk allen head I could definitely send you one.

Got one the same! Went to Rocket’s favourite shop (Fred Tappings) and picket up a stainless counter sunk just like that. The head diameter is spot on so it goes in nice. Takes a smaller allen key but just have to be careful.

When I sell the bike I might but the original back in so the buyer doesn’t freak out. The guy at the counter said my trouble was that I used an allen key instead of a star tool (whatever they are called). I said no way mate, that’s how tight the bastard was in there.

All good, thanks for the help all. Murph if you do find a wacky bolt that is exactly the same let me know – i’ll get one anyway.
