Littswood,
Do you reckon the flange protector (that’s a bad name) is worth having. I’m having trouble visualising how it works. I gather it is supposed to stop impacts on the pipe from breaking apart the bit on the head that the pipe slips into. Is this right?
Bundy, that’s how it works its encompasses the part of the engine that the expansion chamber slips into and reinforces it. It is supposed to stop damage to the engine caused from big hits on the chamber.
As to whether its worth having, its just a bit of insurance really. The cost of repairing the engine would be huge I would imagine. I only fitted it after switching from a Pickles pipe guard (which attached to the frame) to a carbon guard that took the brunt of hits.
